Saw in todays Winston Salem journal on March 15th at the fairgrounds, the city is doing a gun buy back.

Per the full one page ad, it states they will give you $150 for a "assault weapon", $100 for handguns and $75 for rifles and shotguns.

    Here is the question…

Would it be legal to be around that area and advertise that you'd be willing to pay people more than what the city is offering for the weapons they want to turn in?

I don't figure many people will be bringing in Colt AR's for $150, but you never know what you could find.

Figure the police wouldn't be too happy about it, but if you were either private property and given permission to be there or on public property, could anyone actually stop you from advertising that you would be willing to give more money for guns upon your inspection?

If anything, it sure would make for an interesting news article LMAO

I've seen this done on youtube, and yes you'll likely be harassed by the police but as long as you follow the law just like any other FTF deal I don't think you'd be breaking any laws. However, there is the risk of you buying a stolen gun, in which case you'd better chalk it up as a loss and turn the gun in. Finding out IF it's stolen is the tricky part.

I was wondering the same thing. I live in Winston and would hang out with some cash to scoop up a deal. Question is where? Has to be close and preferably on Deacon Blvd where people are driving in. Any businesses there that would allow the use of their property?

this is the stupidest shit ive ever seen. "A public-private initiative to increase community safety through a voluntary program to take guns out of circulation." REALLY!? this is why i hate everyone.

Don't believe they can destroy those guns. State law says they need to be sold.

I know this was asked in another thread, but not sure I saw an answer... didn't our last bill say that the police can't destroy the weapons, and they have to resell them?

I believe so. That Q/A jumped out to me too in light of that new statute I remember reading.

I've got an old no name .22 and a cut up Stevens 12g that have been laying in the basement for years, that are both broken beyond reasonable repair. Seems like a good way to go make $150 to go toward a gun that works.

One of the common military manuals (Guerrilla warfare, improvised munitions, unconventional warfare, or ?) has directions on how to make single shot pistols (38 special, .22 LR, 12 gauge single shot shotgun, single shot rifle). It would be a same if people found such an item and went to turn it in (making a few dollars in the process).

I was deployed to Haiti with the 82nd back in 95 and stood guard at a buyback program. I cant remember what they were giving them but it was a few hundred per weapon. I never saw so many homemade zipguns in my life....LOL
