There are some sexy rifles in here. One of these days….one of these days….
Recently I did some dealing around and now, finally, own an AK. Nothing beautiful, nothing exotic, and in fact maligned by some:
Didn't post about it originally because I wanted to take it to the range first. All I can say is that I have neglected myself in not getting one sooner.
The front sight is slightly canted, but it was still very accurate out to the 100 or so yards I was able to shoot it. I'm not an overly good shot to begin with, and with irons even less so. But easily minute of torso at 100, head at 50, and name tag at 25.
Used a mixture of cheap Tapco mags and some random surplus metal mag that came with it.
I have been blown away by the simplicity of the rifle, after being an AR guy (which I still love) it is nice having a rifle that can be fixed with a rock and cleaned with good intentions.
The guy I bought it from had really not used it much so I was digging cosmoline or grease of some kind out of the bolt when I first cleaned it. A pass with a bore snake brought the barrel back in a nice shine.
Since it is a folder it is a perfect "truck" gun for me. Should I do choose, my car has a compartment under the cargo area that fits the rifle and a few mags perfectly. Have thought about buying some foam sheets and cutting it to fit.
Now, my obsession has been in trying to find magazines. I have about 9 Tapco, both slab side and old standards, a metal surplus 30 rounder and a surplus 40 rounder. But...need moar!

Congrats, @B00GER, every man needs at least one AK in his life.
If you want to glam up the furniture a bit let me know...I could refinish the handguards you have or I have a couple sets im working on including one with a rather large dong.
Thank you for the offer! I actually refinished the hand guards myself a week or so ago. I may be interested in the dong guard at some point.

I have some more stuff on the way as well...I have various things in various stages at this point but need to complete some sets.
No pics but I just picked up a SLR107fr..ask me if it's better than a Mak
I would hope it is approximately 400$ or so better...jk.
When I sell it I'll swear it's the greatest AK ever made,, hell it's worth twice as much as that Chinese crap then
Uh huh...I hear ya. How was the finish on your arsenal..since that is the topic du jour regarding arsenals?
I'll give them credit,,,pretty good workmanship on the fit and finish. Only thing I don't really like is the trigger,,, single hook that's as smooth as sandpaper
Ah yes....couldnt all be perfect I guess.
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice rifle but like you said it's not worth no more than a Chinese rifle
For a 100 series style gun with a folding stock?
As in quality and dependability ?
As in straight up features for money. A 4.5mm stock and a '74-style brake alone make up that $350-$400 price difference when you consider adding it to a MAK.
For my purposes, those features make a difference; a fixed stock gun doesn't fit where I need it, and after all the different muzzle devices I've used, the '74 brake is still my pick. Considering those two points, the SLR is absolutely worth more to me.
Swing both ways midget porn.....
Just got her today… Romy SAR-1 I even cleaned it and put CLP in it. :O)
Now I want a threaded barrel. :O( all you guys have them and I dont. I has a sad.
How much did you get it for?
Saiga 5.45x39 with new Magpul Zhukov AK furniture. Very solid setup.
I'm not an AK fan but that sir makes me want one just because!

The Zhukov certainly makes doing a 5.45 conversion tempting. wouldn't even have to worry about replacing the GB and HG retainer. The problem is finding a Saiga for a half decent price. I passed up on one from a reputable member on here a while back. Stupid.
I purchased the one above in original configuration 8 years ago for $285.......those days are over.
Well I guess the Saiga 5.45 build is complete for now. I installed the Ultimak Rail and Red Dot which gives me a lower 1/3 co-witness with the Mojo (aperture) rear sights. I really like this setup. The Ultimak which replaces the OEM gas tube fit perfectly and looks great with the Zhukov handguard. I may thread the barrel and add a muzzle break at some point.
