A friend of mine recently purchased an Aero precision AR10 upper. Metal started shearing off of the charging handle. He emailed them and asked about it. He was told it was normal and they couldn't warrantee it because an extended handle had been added. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Never had any issues like that ever. I would just change out the charging handle.

I think the bigger problem is the aero Percision won't stand behind their product.

Yeah. I noticed that. Although the problem exist in the oem form as well. I spotted the issue before the handle was installed. Little shards of metal flew off of it. The handle was added to make the charging handle a little more user friendly while trying to diagnose the problem.

I have had no issues with my Areo AR10.

Did you try another charging handle? Maybe the charging handle is out of tolerance?

It is normal. Some receivers or charging handles or both are a bit on the high side of tolerance and they wear into each other. Once those first bits of metal shear off, it is done. If it bothers you, file it smooth and put aluma-black on it. You won't see it any longer.

Looks to be a self limiting non issue.

This wasn't an issue of parts breaking in and Aero Precision has now warranted the part after they realized chunks of metal were coming off.

I built an ar10 for a friend not to long ago. He ordered a aero upper and lower that came with a standard charging handle. Once together there was a lot of contact with the charging handle. I pulled a bcm handle off another build of mine and worked perfectly.

The new charging handle they sent out worked properly. I guess a bad one made it through QC. Identical part and no problems. A little bit of a pain to deal with till they understood the issue and made right on it.
