My NFA dealer said that with a shotgun SBS the barrel could be whatever length that you submit on the paperwork but that the stock couldn't be made into a pistol grip. Please help me with info on this as I'm confused now. Thanks.

You should check with BigWaylon he knows all about this stuff. Not sure how much he is on here but he is a mod on the other board.

I don't know anything about that. That would be news to me if it's true, but I don't believe it is.

The legal definition of a SBS is (18 USC §921(a)(6)):

I took a shotgun, and I made the barrels less than 18 inches and the overall length less than 26 inches. I don't see anything in there about "no pistol grips" or anything like that.

^^ That's the first pic I've seen of the Scorpion that I actually like that handguard. I bet it is a lot lighter than the OEM one though!

EDIT: also, I see you haven't replaced your sites either. I think I am going with the Troy micro HK style, but dang they are expensive!

I wouldn't say it's too much lighter than the standard handguard due to the mounting hardware underneath. The 5" barrel makes a big difference in weight though.

I like the standard sights and don't plan on changing them as I've spent enough $ on this build already haha. They don't cowitness with the MRO (what I prefer) and with the QD mount I can pull the MRO off easily to use the irons.

I took it to the range yesterday and it shoots like an absolute dream suppressed and unsuppressed!

What's involved in installing the shorter barrel? Is machining or a gunsmith required? That looks awesome, would like to do something similar.

Since the company provides a new trunnion already staked and machined it didn't need any smithing. You need a barrel nut wrench to remove the stock handguard. I couldn't get it off with a normal wrench. Got mine from HBI for $25. Id lend mine out for shipping cost since I don't need it anymore. Then you just need the right size hex bit to disassemble the receiver and a inch pound torque wrench to reinstall. Various roll pins involved also.

There are companies that will remove your barrel, shorten and reinstall to the trunnion properly, but my factory barrel and trunnion were misaligned so I needed a new one anyway. But you wouldn't get the built in 3 lug mount which I really wanted.
