The Hearing Protection Act (HPA)

Discussion in 'Concealed Carry | National 2A Laws' started by CharlieDeltaJuliet, Nov 5, 2015.

  1. I was undecided on if this belongs in the NFA section or 2A news. This is what I truly call common sense gun laws. While I am relatively certain it won't gain momentum we need to help educate the people about this. Too many still believe that suppressors will completely silence the report from a rifle or pistol. So write, call, email.. You know the drill...

On October 22 Representative Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ) announced the Hearing Protection Act (HPA), a bill aimed at removing suppressors from National Firearms Act oversight so Americans can more easily acquire them for hearing protection while target shooting or hunting.

To bad it will never gain traction. Every gun should include a muffler.

Yep, I don't see the difference between gun, car or motorcycle when it comes to noise. The law requires the muffler on your car / motorcycle. Law also makes it very difficult to muffle your firearm. That doesn't make sense to me.

Not worth even thinking about unless Trump gets elected. Obummer would veto and I suspect Hildebeast would also.

strenthening 2a and removing suppressors from govt control is coming, it just needs a few states with the balls to stand up to federal govt overstepping their authority. SOON IT WILL START TO HAPPEN. why do we not hear for the children over this infringement?

Didn't I read somewhere some states were saying federal restrictions don't apply for items built in state and sold to state residents? It would be great for SC, as we have quite a few suppressor manufacturers.

    Hm... Cobras in New Dehli??

The law of unintended consequences. Make suppressors available and the left will try to make them mandatory...

Yup. Now if you have a gun that you can't/don't want to put one on .... illegal .... because it will destroy your hearing.
Mines already gone. Had no idea what hearing protection was when I was a kid.

How about suppression is an option just like night sights but leave out the ... we are doing it for the "hearing" part.

    Cynical minds think alike.

My hearing's definitely damage. At a conference once, I told a colleague I was having trouble hearing him 'cause "Too Many Years of Power Tools and Rock n' Roll."

He said, "Windini, you've just titled your autobiography!"

Copyright dibs on that, you would-be plagiarists!

I see what you are getting at but a supressed lever 357 is one of my holy grail guns...

Thats cool but I don't want any more laws especially ones that say "only suppressed guns may be used because of the noise".

No reason suppressors can't be an over the counter item.

  20. It is time!! Arise thread.. It is time to let us be heard about the HPA. Between now and the time a Trump takes office, I am going to burn up the inboxes and phones of my reps.

We need to push on this. While I don't think The Donald would care either way, Don Jr recently visited a suppressor company. He might be the voice in his dads ear that we need.

I've talked to some of the LE folks that were with him when he shot at Lake Norman, I'd count them in the "firearms enthusiast" category, so its hopeful that this can happen.

TH, you need a Silencer in your life. It should be our goal for 2017 to get you into the NFA game.

I would have already had a silencer if it wasn't for the NFA paperwork and fee.

I just can't stand the idea of having to pay the government for the privilege of owning something that should be an over the counter toy.

any provisions in the HPA to roll your own? Seems to me, since they are supposed to be on a 4473, you could build one just the same as a custom "experimental" firearm or a 80% receiver.

I would have a dozen if it didn't cost $200 ea in taxes.
Heck they have a 22 suppressor that $100.

Buy a CNC machine and pay the $200 per and cut your own. Several pattern are already on the market.

Sure you have the price of the machine but you can use it for other things like 80% lowers, and making other items.

Its not for everyone but, it's just a thought.

I can roll my own and have.
Sometimes it's cheaper to buy one built vs building.
But to be honest $100 for a k-baffle 22lr suppressor isn't worth my time to make.
