It has taken me a few weeks, but I've figured out why I can now find .22lr ammunition. Plenty of .22lr. Some places have pallets of it. If you don't believe it, go to Eastern Outfitters and look. Local shops have scads of .22. So does Dick's, Dunhams, Cabella's and the two new Academy stores, in eastern NC.

Now for the availability explanation . . . ALL of the hoarders, have suddenly stopped hoarding!!! We, the shooters and hoarders, have fixed the problem. I'm so damn proud of us.

I think the shooters and hoarders (and the shooters who hoard) are doing exactly the same things.

I think the scammers, short-term profiteers and idiots have quit using 22lr to take other peoples money.

But really - I don't care. I'm just glad it is back. Welcome back amigo!

There's no such thing as a hoarder.

People who buy the ammo up to flip it are not stockpiling it. The people who buy it to keep are doing so to shoot it and to make sure they don't run out. That's not hoarding; that's calling being prepared, and who can fault them for it?

The reason for the current availability of .22LR is because I was recently fired as moderator of the CSC Platinum Section, so I'm no longer stacking it to the ceiling in my office as ransom for admission.

Who are you kidding we saw the payoff in 22lr for your new roll, we know you still want it. You have a room somewhere full 22lr you swim in don't you.

The price of. 22lr price has increased, as the manufacturers wanted it to. 1) We are now acclimated to the higher prices. 2) The widespread lack of availability, and the length of time that it was so hard to get, has us joyfully now paying .06, 07, 08, 09 and .10 cents a round for bulk. That's with tax of course. And, a bunch of shooters were, and are, convinced that "we created the shortage". That's like blaming Iraq for 9/11!

    Meh.

I just continue to invest, like with mutual funds. Buy a box here, a box there with the pocket change I happen to have on me. Pretty soon, I've got an impressive amount to support me and mine as I see fit.

Nothing is right with the world until I see these on Walmart shelves again. Haven't seen one in years now. And, until I do, .22 is still a problem.

Actually the miracle happened 2 nights ago. I was able to buy an assortment of quality ammo at Walmart's lower price point. However, they were gone the next day. This marks 5 years since I have seen any of this on a shelf. Granted I did not compete with the Geritol army since I know how to use the internet and free shipping codes. But still, here it is in all it's (3 box limit x 2 ppl) glory!

I traded 3 of those for a Jimenez 22LR pistol one time :D
Then I had some remorse, and had to rush out and find 3 more for $23.97 each.
Still got them in the stash, but when they reappear I'm gonna load up the BX25s and have a middle-eastern wedding type celebration event in my backyard.

The last time I saw those in a Wal-Mart was in May/June 2012.

I was able to backorder a case of them from Midway though on Dec 14, 2012 that was delivered Feb 2015. :)

    @fieldgrade

I thought it was understood that you resigned the position to pursue other interests. Now here you are implying that someone has been fired just before Christmas.

    Geez.

Just got back from Dick's. They were loaded with .22. Buy one, 50% off another box, no limit.

Federal Automatch 325 round boxes, Remington Thunderbolts (525?), Winchester .22 LR 100 round boxes, some .22 Magnum.

I bought 10 boxes of Winchester Long Rifle. With 5 boxes at 50% off, it's cheaper than I've seen at Walmart.

Sale goes til Monday, the guy said. I might go back tomorrow.

A buddy was telling me right after the election Walmart became slammed full of ammo. My guess, someone besides your local old guys was hoarding some ammo. And now there isn't the desire to stockpile or buy and sell like their was. IMO, they are offloading it at normal prices but were hoping to cash in at higher prices. Bidness.

Who knows, but did see pallets of ammo appear on sale at the LGS after the election. I suspect that everyone in the supply chain was holding a bit extra.

There was a bunch of CCI 22mag at Cabelas this week. I haven't seen that in years. Makes me want a 22mag rifle now.

I was at Dicks a few days ago and they had 8-10 325-count boxes of Remington 22, and several 50 and 100 count boxes of CCI. I've seen CCI starting to show up occasionally at my local Walmart too.

I think the shortage is coming to an end. I think the election has a lot to do with it. Fear mongering isn't driving people to buy up and hoard/stockpile it. And I think the election has made the people who were paying outrageous prices on gunbroker for 22 stop buying it online.

I THINK they were about $25. I don't recall for sure. I was more interested in the Winchester.

$25 for the first box and $12.50 for the second comes out to a pretty fair deal.
