So I've seen some threads here and there where people mention how much their AR weighs, but I never thought much of it until the other day.
Friday I got my AR out from the safe, not sure why (wasnt going shooting), and thought I'd put it on the scale to see what she weighed.
8lbs 7oz
I know some have stated sub 5lb weights on here, but is this overly heavy or pretty standard?

The gun is a Troy 5.56 Carbine, have added eotech optic and magnifier, thats it.

So what do yalls weigh?

Nobody is getting sub 5lbs or even sub 6lbs with that optic, magnifier and a 16" barrel.

I suspect a lot of that talk is merely estimating, unless they specifically built it to be very light - LW barrel, LW carrier, minimalist stock, polymer irons/no optic or no irons/microdot, etc.

Sorry, I was not clear, I meant sub 5 in general, not with optic/magnifier etc. (Maybe I misread posts, couldve sworn some folks on here had 5lb ARs)
Mine still has iron sights on it too

Oh, and I'll be adding a little more weight to it soon (hopefully sooner rather than later!...less PEW and more pew ;))
I dont have a bunch of lasers and lights etc, and never held one like that, but assuming they must be heavy as heck!

13 1/2 lbs with iron sights. Yep - thirteen and a half pounds. :D Set up for HP Service Rifle shooting
My NRA/CMP A2 service rifle is a bit chunkier, coming it at around 16 pounds. You get used to the weight, but those 20 round offhand strings can wear you out.

I also have a Barnes Patrolman Carbine too. It comes in around 8'ish pounds with optics.

Mine weighs in like a kid at fat camp. The AR with Aimpoint PRO weighs just a tad over 10lbs. It is an HK with a re-profiled barrel. I had a few lighter AR's but recently thinned the herd. The CMMG I also have left is 7.2 lbs.

.22LR - Innovative Arms IASW (Integrally Suppressed), sling, Optima 2000 ProPoint, 25 rounds 40 gr LRN = 6 lbs 2 ozs.
5.56 - 16" barrel, sling, Leupold MK 4 1.5-5x20, 30 rounds 62 gr M855 = 10 lbs 10 ozs.
.300 Blackout - 16" barrel, sling, Nikon P-300, 30 rounds 125 gr SST = 10 lbs 2 ozs.
.300 Blackout - 8.5" barrel, sling, Leupold MK 4 1.5-5x 20, 30 rounds 125 gr SST, IA Deception 7.62 Suppressor = 10 lbs 2 ozs.
.300 Blackout - 8.5" barrel, sling, Leupold MK 4 1.5-5x 20, 30 rounds 125 gr SST = 8 lbs 13 ozs.
.308 - 16" barrel, sling, Nikon M-308, 25 rounds 168 gr FGMM = 12 lbs

They were weighed hanging straight down from the muzzle device on a digital spring scale. The base .22 is a S&W M&P 15-22. The 5.56 is on a DPMS lower and has a Templar upper, the .300 is sitting on a Del-Ton lower and an Anderson upper with a barrel I got from Brownells and a Samson rail. The .300 SBR has a Spikes Tactical 9" rail on it. The .308 is on an Aero Precision set with a barrel from Core and an MI rail.

I posted in another thread recently about this.

My AR has some heavy/heavier options. ACS stock, Rainier 16" Match (heavy contour) barrel, 17 oz stainless steel suppressor, TA11 ACOG (one of the larger models), Harris bipod, so with a fully loaded magazine (28rds of 75gr open tip) it clocked in at 11.2lbs

My lightest is a 16" with iron sights, 11" rail, and sling at 7lb. Bcm 14.5" lightweight with centurion c4 rail, aimpoint pro in larue mount, buis, scout light, and sling is 8lb. The 18" spr'ish AR is full figured. 13" rail, Vortex 2.5-10x32 in larue mount, buis, light, sling, and harris bipod weights in at 11lb.

I had a build that was 9.5lbs-billet lower, sopmod stock, 18" barrel, ect
I was using that for our local 3 gun match mind you.

Since, I put the scale on my sbr, which is 5.5, using a human weight scale, so those are not exact numbers
