This guy advertises $15 plus shipping firearms transfers and I used him once before with no problems. I recently sold two handguns that I had shipped through SFGuns. I paid for the transfer and shipping fees on January 6th for the first one, and January 12th for the second one. Both guns were shipped on January 27th.

In both cases, I was in contact with the buyers and both were treated in an extremely rude manner by the owner. When I paid for the transfer, the manager at SFG assured me they had everything they need and the gun was being shipped the next day. A few days later when the first buyer contacted me and asked me to look into the shipping, when I spoke to the manager again, he said they didn't get the FFL info until "last night." I mentioned something about the buyer being rude, and he said, "yeah, you don't want to be rude to the owner, it doesn't work well for you." Hello, I paid for a service. You provide that service, whether someone is rude or not.

At first I figured the first buyer was rude on the phone, so the owner at SFG was being immature and withholding shipment to spite him. But then I contacted the second buyer, and he basically had the same story. I know this second guy definitely was not rude in any way, shape, or form to me. He didn't even contact me to let me know he was having a problem with his shipping. He decided to just keep quiet and wait in fear he would not receive his gun at all. He was even told he couldn't get a tracking number because they ship so many guns, they can't keep track of them.!?!?!?

In the past, I have gone in and asked about an item, and the owner would take my name and number and said he would look into it. He never called or e-mailed.

Soon after the store first opened, I bought a rifle there. When I was thinking of buy it, I told the owner they appeared to be much cheaper before they kind of disappeared for a while. He showed me a page on his computer and said that was what he paid for it, making his markup look reasonable to me. I did some research and made an offer for a little bit lower than he was asking, basically saving me the amount of tax, and he accepted it. I later saw a similar page to the one he showed me through another dealer. That web page was basically stating, if you buy this rifle from us at this cost, you can expect to get this much on the street. Kind of like a pricing guide for dealers, from the distributors. So what it looks like he did was show me the recommended street price, and told me that was what he paid for it.

Some of his stuff is quite a bit over priced. $499 for Aimpoint PROs. $400 for Ruger 22.45 Lites. Most his small stuff is marked $4 or $5 over MSRP. The manager made me a price matching deal on a trigger. But when you ask the owner to price match he gets annoyed and tells you that you are paying a convenience fee. But take the trigger for example. MSRP is $159. They had theirs priced at $169.99. They were on the internet for between $92 and $115. The manager matched the $115 price. The owner would have expected me to pay a $55 convenience fee. Taking into consideration that is $10 over MSRP plus tax on top of that, it is one hell of a convenience fee on what is basically a $100 item if you bought somewhere else.

I have basically tolerated the little things for a long time, and still stopped in every once in a while to see if there was anything to cherry pick. Sometimes the prices are okay on what I need, but I don't think I will ever stop in the store again and I definitely no longer recommend them.

I've never liked them. They seem to cater to the uninformed Marines. It sucks that there really isn't a good gun shop in Jacksonville. All of them are pretty much the same and from time to time you may get a good deal at one but they're few and far. I've been there a few times to check stuff out and their prices are, like you said, more than MSRP on pretty much everything. I've stopped buying stuff local because of that reason. There is a new store that just opened up right next to Pumpkin Center Fire department on 17 as you're leaving town. I plan on stopping there one day and seeing what they have.

It's called Pumpkin Center Bait and Tackle. It is a tackle shop downstairs and a small gun shop upstairs. It is a pretty small space. I went there but it was a weekend, and the kid working the counter told me the owner works gun shows nearly every weekend, so it is better to come during the week. Not much to see, prices are okay on guns but high on ammo and accessories. They have been at the gun show the past couple of time I did go. The first time I was looking at one of those new Inland m1 Carbines. This last time, he had one of the Armalite DEF-10 I am interested in. Both were about $1025, marked down to $996 for the gun show.

I also want to clarify something about the price the owner at SFG showed me on his computer. Now that I think about it, it was at his shop that I saw the same website with the prices on it. At a later time after purchasing the first rifle, I was asking about the 20 inch ARs when FN and Colt had introduced theirs.

He was telling me that the FN would be a couple hundred dollars cheaper for basically the same rifle, and once again turned his computer screen towards me so I could see what it would cost me. I remember that distinctly because it was the same price all the other places were showing for that model. It was about $989 or $999. That was when I put two and two together about him showing me street price, and telling me that was what he paid for the other rifle a few weeks earlier.

You've had 2 or 3 negative reviews of dealers in the last few weeks.
Wouldn't that mean the dealers have problems? I have posted two negative reviews recently, the first one which I stated the employee called me back and said he was wrong. Not my problem. Also, the reason I called that dealer was directly related to SFGuns not shipping the guns. I was looking for another dealer to use for the transfer id the buyers wanted to try someone else. Same scenario, same time frame.

Since 1999, I have purchased firearms from Hardesty Guns, B&R Guns, Flatwoods, The Gun Shoppe, The Gun Shop, Semper-Fi Guns, Stop-N-Pawn, Park-N-Pawn, Walmart, Eastern Outfitters Jacksonville, Guerrilla Armament, Eastern Outfitters Hampstead, Danny's Pawn and Guns, Jim's Pawn and Guns, Rocky Point Guns, and about a handful more at gun shows I can't remember off the top of my head.

In all those years and shops, I have had poor service at three of those shops. Most I write off to the high transient rate and low skill requirement of being a helping hand at a gun shop. That would be the Hardesty kid calling me at home hours later and telling me a gun did not have crooked sights, when you could clearly see they were, and the recent guy hanging up on me at Stumpies. This SFGuns experience is the truly first shady/immature/unbusinesslike workings I have experienced.

That is what this section of the forum is for isn't it? Not to mention, in each of my dealer critiques, you have other people agreeing with my observations.

Wasn't really a slight against you, just an observation. I can't name 3 negative experiences with a gun store I've had in my life time. So it's hard for me to understand how you have had such a hard time over the last month.

I haven't been having such a hard time. I had one person throw a self-professed tantrum and hang up on me and another person that acts like a child while running his business. Neither of those things are my problems. I was relaying my experiences.

You've got a bunch more to choose from down there than I have up here!! I need to go gun shopping down your way.
Those include shops between Havelock, here, and Wilmington, that I have used over the years. I bet it seems like a lot compared to New Bern, that has what, Hwy70 Pawn, and that's about it? But the shops here in Jacksonville are not much to look at and most of their prices are quite high.

I forgot to mention Sportsman's Lodge, but I have never purchased a firearm there. All of their guns are over priced by about $100 to $150. Rifles are even higher. Over ten years ago I got a membership there for the shooting range. The guy started complaining that I shot too much and bitched because I never bought any guns. I told him the prices were too high. He said if people want them, they would pay. I told him not me. Not that much difference.

You can get deals at Guerrilla Armament and the two pawn shops I mentioned have lowered their hand gun prices quite a bit recently. The rest are so so. If you get a chance to stop in, go for it. But I wouldn't make a special trip.

If you are trying to transfer a gun try Swansboro music and pawn. They are good people, might cost you a little more money but I have had nothing but good dealings with them. Buying a gun, they don't have much stock at all but prices tend to be good and they can order what you want for the most part.

I agree with the fact that we do have a decent amount of gun shops in the area but the quality is horrible. I would rather have 1 good shop then 10 ok to horrible shops.

Don't waist your time. I've bought stuff from almost every shop from Wilmington to Jacksonville. Some are good to look at, some are good for conversation. The two best places for deals and people that will haggle a bit are Park and Pawn and Stop and Pawn on Hwy 24. Guerrilla Armament has some good deals from time to time and a lot of AR parts in stock along with some Harris bipods. Gun Shop sells cans and Blue Label blocks but will rake you over the coals on pistols. If you want eye candy check out Armageddon Armory and bring the wife because they sell jewelry.

I like the guys at Guerrilla Armament. Before and after they moved into their new place.

It sounds like the pawn shops are the places to check. I may be heading down there in the next 2-3 days, if I can find a backpack to buy. I'll have to go by the pawn shops while I'm in town. I bought a rifle from one of them 3-4 yrs ago. I think it was Stop-N-Pawn. Near the gate/close to the end of Western Blvd.
