This guy advertises $15 plus shipping firearms transfers and I used him once before with no problems. I recently sold two handguns that I had shipped through SFGuns. I paid for the transfer and shipping fees on January 6th for the first one, and January 12th for the second one. Both guns were shipped on January 27th.
In both cases, I was in contact with the buyers and both were treated in an extremely rude manner by the owner. When I paid for the transfer, the manager at SFG assured me they had everything they need and the gun was being shipped the next day. A few days later when the first buyer contacted me and asked me to look into the shipping, when I spoke to the manager again, he said they didn't get the FFL info until "last night." I mentioned something about the buyer being rude, and he said, "yeah, you don't want to be rude to the owner, it doesn't work well for you." Hello, I paid for a service. You provide that service, whether someone is rude or not.
At first I figured the first buyer was rude on the phone, so the owner at SFG was being immature and withholding shipment to spite him. But then I contacted the second buyer, and he basically had the same story. I know this second guy definitely was not rude in any way, shape, or form to me. He didn't even contact me to let me know he was having a problem with his shipping. He decided to just keep quiet and wait in fear he would not receive his gun at all. He was even told he couldn't get a tracking number because they ship so many guns, they can't keep track of them.!?!?!?
In the past, I have gone in and asked about an item, and the owner would take my name and number and said he would look into it. He never called or e-mailed.
Soon after the store first opened, I bought a rifle there. When I was thinking of buy it, I told the owner they appeared to be much cheaper before they kind of disappeared for a while. He showed me a page on his computer and said that was what he paid for it, making his markup look reasonable to me. I did some research and made an offer for a little bit lower than he was asking, basically saving me the amount of tax, and he accepted it. I later saw a similar page to the one he showed me through another dealer. That web page was basically stating, if you buy this rifle from us at this cost, you can expect to get this much on the street. Kind of like a pricing guide for dealers, from the distributors. So what it looks like he did was show me the recommended street price, and told me that was what he paid for it.
Some of his stuff is quite a bit over priced. $499 for Aimpoint PROs. $400 for Ruger 22.45 Lites. Most his small stuff is marked $4 or $5 over MSRP. The manager made me a price matching deal on a trigger. But when you ask the owner to price match he gets annoyed and tells you that you are paying a convenience fee. But take the trigger for example. MSRP is $159. They had theirs priced at $169.99. They were on the internet for between $92 and $115. The manager matched the $115 price. The owner would have expected me to pay a $55 convenience fee. Taking into consideration that is $10 over MSRP plus tax on top of that, it is one hell of a convenience fee on what is basically a $100 item if you bought somewhere else.
I have basically tolerated the little things for a long time, and still stopped in every once in a while to see if there was anything to cherry pick. Sometimes the prices are okay on what I need, but I don't think I will ever stop in the store again and I definitely no longer recommend them.
