OK, so I finally make up my mind to get the PPQ 5". Checked Buds and they had them for $630 (maybe cut their normal price of $662 due to the introduction of the PPQ Match?). So I save my pennies for a day or two and go back to Buds to order and they're sold out. Dang it. Now I'm second guessing my choice. I shot several 9's recently (I posted the results in another thread). So I'm back to thinking about those. Also saw a Hi Power clone I liked. I had a Hi Power that was stolen, and I'd like to get another one. So... any comments between these choices:

Sig P320 $475
Canik TP9 SA $350
Ruger SR9c $430
FM or Kareen Hi Power $300
FN Hi Power $375

I can see if the LGS can get the 5" PPQ, but IIRC they were a good bit higher than Buds, plus sales tax. I think before I'd pay that extra, I'd get two of the other choices.

Yes, I was just going to say check with CDDN. I just did a private sale a 5" PPQ, so no longer in the market. But I spent days researching online prices over the past few months.

Grabagun has it at $660, but I've seen it on sale there for under $600. Gunbuyer also had it in stock several months ago for $580. I was also ready to buy that one, but by the time my Purchase Permit showed up, it was gone. I'm wondering if 5" availability is low right now because they are filling orders for the Q5?

If you are ever in Charlotte, you are welcome to come shoot mine.

Thanks a bunch to both of you. Grabagun is at $660, but CDNN still has them for $619. + $20 shipping. But now I'm second guessing myself. Does it make sense to spend that on one, when I can just about get two for the price of that one. What would you guys do?

Depends on the use. A friend on here shoots the snot out of his Ruger successfully in IDPA. None of those are cheap afterthoughts. They are, however all very different. It just depends on your use. Your list confuses the shit out of me :)

Seriously...if I am look at a ppq 5" then I am looking at 5" competition guns so my other choices would be other 5" guns like a glock 34, fns long slide, m&p 5" and xdm 5.25.

I also came to the same decision that NoKimberDave says.

Have you shot any of them? I did two rental days at different ranges and shot quite a few different guns, cause I overanalyze most expensive purchases. The PPQ was far and away the winner for me. I did like the HK VP9 as well minus the paddle mag release. The XD Mod2 also I liked, but not nearly the same as the PPQ. The Sig is a cool concept, but for me was a little bigger and heavier.

I suggest you try some out as well, especially since firearms are very much up to subjective qualities like feel. But it is very hard to find any bad reviews on PPQs and the 5" in my opinion is just awesome. You won't regret getting one.

I want all of them!!

I did rent some. All of the six guns I shot at the indoor range I thought were good guns. I posted my thoughts on each one in a different thread. The only one I didn't care for was the P-07, and only because the decocker I thought was in the way of the slide release (if you jack the slide, that is no issue for you). All the other five would have been reasonable choices for me. I didn't like the Canik mags. But as popular as they are becoming, I suspect better aftermarket mags would become available (if they aren't already).

Like I said, I had decided on the PPQ 5", and only am questioning now because Bud's was out when I went to the site to order. Figured I'd just wait till they got it back into stock, since I'm in no hurry. Then I just happened to read a little more on HiPower clones and the Canik as well. I can get the Canik and the Hipower clone for close to the same money as the PPQ. I liked the Canik. And I loved the HiPower I had. So it's not such an easy choice. A used HiPower clone that I think I'll love, plus a Canik that I've shot and liked. Or the PPQ that I loved when I tried it.

You can get it with or without the weird flag design (I honestly don't like it). It has a sweet trigger. Keep in mind if I compliment a trigger, I really mean it. I'm a simple guy. To me, every trigger that isn't a 1911 sorta sucks in it's own way. I had a sig with that SRT trigger and was only sorta kinda impressed...I honestly felt it brought an ok trigger to kinda good status, but not quite as good as a new factory m9a1 level. The FNS is pleasant.

Also, they have the FN hi powers in stock.

I don't know squat about fn's except how to choot em. If you like the hi power so much, you owe it to yourself to check out CZ. The 75 and 75 compact are some of the most popular guns in the world for good reason. The p-01 and PCR are a couple of my favorites. The phantom is a sweet 5" range gun in your price range. Not MY favorite 5" gun but very popular especially in competition. Wow...buds has some aggressively priced surplus cz75 imports in stock. The more worn, the better the trigger on a cz :) I may plop down some cash on one of those myself.

The grip on every FN I've ever picked up felt too large for me. Pretty much scratched them off my list. Except for the FN Hi-Power of course. But I'm leaning towards the Kareen HiPower right now. I have checked out the CZ's and again, the grip is just too large. I'm not sure that I've handled the Phantom though.

My list is a little whacky. Because I'm torn between a 4" and a 5" gun. I thought about the G34. But I don't plan to buy another Glock. Also considered the M&P Core 5" and the Canik 5.2".

I have small hands the the CZ's fit me well. Although I put VZ's on my PCR and my Protek came with the thin aluminum gribs. I love those. The fat rubber ones not so much. Grips are easy to change if you like the gun.

CZ Compact in 3.8" is a sweet gun. Or even the P-01's. But the length will probably be dictated by how you plan on using it. For an all around gun I haven't found much better than the compact CZ's.

Whaaaaat? To me the fns is smaller feeling than the hipower once I get a high grip on it. Like I said in the army replacement thread....most of this crap is meaningless preferences. We want what we want with our own money.

I had all the 9mm glocks. What a boring collection. Obama ran for office on the 2nd term and I sold those bad boys. I just now replaced the 19 along with a 43 (and paid for half a 34). I've owned a ton of different firearms...there's something to be said for sticking to one or two platforms when it comes to calibers. Honestly I would have bought that FNS 9 long slide over the 34....but my 19 is my favorite so I stuck to glock. The fn 45 feels obnoxiously huge to me.

Yes, I admit it publicly. I am coming out of the tupperware box. I like my 19 better than my two favorite 1911s...a colt rail gun and a colt series 70.

I'd like to find a doublestack 45 platform I'm comfortable with....but it isn't glock or FN. I need to try the m&p.

I hate rubber. Rubber grips or rubber overmold gives me that "nails on a chalkboard" feeling. Makes me cringe.

Doublestack 45? Have you trued the xd? I just picked up a compact and run the full size mag for nightstand duty. I am a certified beretta 92 fanboy but the xd 45 is quite nice for a plastic gun.
I've only tried the 9mm and 40 5.25 models. I guess I need to go fondle an xd 45 5.25

Dollar for dollar, the commercial m9 and m9a1 are great shooters and cheap used (especially in a military town where the locals hate shooting the worn out army issued units). I sold one to 1911gobang that had a just phenomenal trigger. Shorten the take up for smaller handed folks and it's just butter. Worlds better than the sig srt trigger in my experience.

Beretta triggers are nice out the box. Thow a d spring in and they are about right for a defensive firearm. I have one 92fs that was worked over at accockeek factory many moons ago by their in house comp shooters that has the best da/sa i have ever touched. I recently picked up 92d centurion that is very nice even for dao. The 92 gets a bad rap from the military but thats a whole other thread. To stay on topic a 92fs or 92a1 would be a good choice for a 9mm go to gun. Mags readily avaliable, holsters are avaliable and not much of tinkering required to run like a beast. If you want to trick it out wilson combat is but a click away.

Yeah my m9a1 was a real shooter. Surplus military mags are all over the pawn shops in Fayetteville for some reason. :)

Contrary to the worn out military models, it was butter smooth in every way and really accurate.

Here's another thought.
You want a 4" - you want a 5" - split the difference and get a pistol with a 4.5" barrel.
You want a $300 canik and you want a $600 Walther. Split the difference and get a $450 CZ.
Good quality, not great but not a glock, beretta or a 1911 either. Good trigger, but not perfect.

Maybe you would be happy with the 19+1 capacity. CZ P-09 $453 plus $0 shipping.

Well - maybe it would be worth your time to find a person or a range with one, and put some rounds through it.

I actually thought about the PPQ Navy with the 4.5" barrel. But decided to go with the 5" instead. The only reason I thought about a 4" gun is my concern over using a 5". I've never owned a 5" that I wanted to conceal before.

No go for me with the CZ's. They just don't fit for me.

Does the CZ P-09 have that decocker like the P-07 has?

Has anybody seen/tried the Canik SFx yet?
