Car found!

My son turns 16 next month and I'm looking for a nice used car that gets good gas mileage. I'm thinking about Toyota, Nissan, or something of the like. Please let me know what you have to offer.

I don't have anything etched in stone except automatic. My son has not yet mastered the manual shift! lol The 4 cylinder car with auto comes to mind first.... better gas mileage and easier on insurance. Price range.... well that needs to be on the lower end somewhere around 2 - 2.5k.

Thanks! :)

My girlfriend is selling her 1990 Honda accord 4 door. It has just over 170xxx miles and runs great. transmission shifts hard from 1st to 2nd gear but its "normal" on these cars haha. She is asking $2500

a small truck will be better on insurance.

And a 5 speed will make it so he can't talk/text while driving for a while:biggrin:

Not really. Liability rates are the same on a pickup or a porsche, and anyone wanting "full coverage" (comp and collision) on a 16 year old has ...... "other problems." You will pay a minimum of 3500 dollars a year on liability with comp/collision for a driver with less than one year exp, and that is with the 20% discount for multicars.

The CHEAPEST way to do it is get a non-owners policy from some independent agent who will sell you ONE MONTH premium which you cancel after you get it. Sit on the license for a year. The rates go down pretty dramatically after that first year, and decline to standard after three years, if there are no tickets or accidents. That way will make an unhappy 16 year old, though.

Next cheapest way is buy a car you can pay cash for and be willing to pay the 1600-2800 dollars a year for minimum liability that first year.

Unless you have USAA insurance my premium for my 16 yr old daughter only went up $640.00 a year, but she makes honor roll and works so maybe that played a roll in it.
