10mm Glocks

For some reason I have decided that I might need a G20 or a G29. We have a few 9mm pistols but I want something in a more substantial caliber in case I encounter grizzly bears or mountain lions. I was thinking a .45 acp (and I still might go that way) but I also want something different. I was considering .357 sig but from what I read, reloading might be a pain. Is 10mm (full load, not watered down) really the fire-breathing beast people make it out to be?

Tell me about your 10mm Glocks. Is G20 the way to go? Is the G29 to small for that caliber? I am a little disappointed that Glock does not make a compact 10mm, just the full size and subcompact. The 19/23/32 sized pistols seem to be the perfect size for me, which makes me start thinking about the .357 sig again...

Oh and the bear/lion comment was in jest lol

I have no experience with the glocks mentioned, but the 357 sig can be a pain to reload, but if you have good brass it isn't so bad. Neck tension is the biggest problem, after you find a bullet that feeds well into your gun.

Since you're stepping up to a big-boy caliber and won't need that girly 9mm Kahr, let me know how much you want for it... ;)

Lol, I have been going back and forth in my head with selling it. Its a beautiful gun, shoots superb but I just don't use it. I even have some nice R.Grizzle leather for it. The gun and holster are sitting on the shelf right now. Then I decide I want to keep it, then I decide I want all Glock, idk... Do you you have a G29 you are looking to get rid of?

10MM shooting full power loads = Big Smile
10MM shooting regular overprived store bought run of the mill that equals .40s&w = eh, whatever

I had a glock 29 and found that shooting 10mm in an unsupported chamber is probably not good. All my brass was bulged pretty badly and I had one go kaboom. Glock fixed the pistol no charge but they took about 3 months to fix it. I would stay away from buffalo bore or any of the other actual full power 10mm loads if you would like your glock to stay together. The recoil of the 10mm was really not that bad. I found it was not as snappy as .357 sig and was more like shooting some really hot 45acp loads.

Lol. That's for sure.
One day, I was swapping back and forth between my 20, and 1911. After shooting DoubleTap Ammo through the 20, and swapping to the 1911, I then knew how Neo felt in the Matrix when he could watch bullets fly. It honestly felt like I could almost watch the .45ACP powered slide unlock, and start it's lumbering motion rearward in ultra slomo.

Cliff Notes:
10MM full power is very, very cool.

I love the Glock 20. It is what I carry in the woods. If you already have a .45, you could check out some of DoubleTaps hotter loads for a woodsy .45 gun. However, getting another firearm is never the wrong answer.

For "hot" or nuclear loads in a glock, get an aftermarket barrel with better support. I have fired true 10mm out of factory barrels with my gen 3 20 and 29 with no effect on the gun but it's hell on brass. I also add stronger springs (20 to 21 lbs is enough). As many here know, I love my 3rd generation S&W 10mm's, they will shoot it all, ask for more, and give you change back.

I agree with everything Dorton said. Once I get going reloading I may get back into 10mm. I used to carry a S&W 1006. I loved that thing, but ammo was insane and most was weak out of the box.

On another hand, my .357 sig is nasty with factory ammo. I'll punch through 1" polycarb panels stacked 3 deep with the right bullets. There's also a 65gr bullet or it that travels 2450fps. That's nuts...

I had a Glock 20 and loved it. IMO, even the target ammo is a nice round. The only reason I don't have a 10mm is the price and limited availability of ammo.

Hunter did a lot of work with the write up for Gunclassifieds. I'm sure he's got some good info for you.
On the buldge:
I bought the factory Glock barrel from Lone Wolf http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=546&CAT=122
I have had no issues with bulged cases or even tough resizing with fired brass. I did not want an aftermarket barrel due to the tighter tolerances.
I am having great luck with Unique powder and a few different bullet weights.

Yeah, I think I might need one of these animals. I have a reloading press and I would mostly shoot my G19 at the range but it would be fun to unleash the beast once in a while. I suppose it would make a nice hiking pistol too.

I know that Firepower does not have any to rent, I will check out Eagle and Shooters Express and see what kind of offerings they have.

I have a glock 20C and have a 6" Lone WOLF barrel. I also had a grip reduction and stippling performed also. Ammo is not that bad ordering from Underwood ammo. It is my favorite outdoors pistol. More power than a 357 and holds 15 rounds. What is not to like.

I was just watching some Hickok 45 videos of the G20 and G29, those 10mm rounds hit hard!

Shrek, I am kinda torn between the 20 and the 29 right now. If they had a 19/23/32 sized frame I would have went and bought one today. I am gonna have to handle both offerings and see which I like better.

Well, if you want full size the 20 is awesome. I've said it before, if I had to choose between my 20 or 21, I'd pick the 20.

People talk about price and availability of ammo, but if you find something you like you make the commitment and go with it.

I am not too worried about the ammo, I will reload for it. If I get one, it will be for limited/occasional use, hiking, home defense etc... I would be tearing through hundreds of rounds per session like I do with the 9mm.

As for full size, I am not sure if I like it. I can be very picky with aesthetics and the other Glock full size guns like the 17 and the 22 don't do it for me. I will have to check out the 20 before I make a decision though. This is the one area that has me leaning back to .357 sig, I can get a G32 and have the same size pistol as the G19. This may take me several weeks and wavering back and forth lol.

Just a thought, is conversion an option? Most 45s can be converted to 10mm, right? How about a compact 45-10mm conversion? For occasional use the conversions are perfect. I don't own a 357sig, just a conversion for my 27. It's great for the little I shoot the round.
