Well my lee 300 blackout die set finally had the decapping pin break after resizing 1500+ cases from .223 to 300 blackout. During this time I had about 3 cases get stuck in the die and hammered out all 3. So I surfed around the net looking for se3009 the 300 blackout decapping pin it seemed the only place that had them was titanreloading , Never order from them before , so I opted a different route . I jumped onto midway and saw they finally had the hornady 300 blackout die set in stock and available , so I went ahead and ordered them . Upon arrival The quality difference between the lee and the Hornady was noticable by looking at them . The hornady seemed much higher end . So I sat down at the reloading bench and started back to resizing cases with the new Hornady dies. About 10 cases in one get stuck in the die . So I follow the normal procedure of hammering it out to get it unstuck . It finally gives way and comes out, well mostly out the case was now stuck on the decapping rod with the expander ball , well quick work with a pair of pliers takes care of the case and gets it off. upon inspection of the decapping rod it seems the decapping pin broke off and the decapping rod is bent , and now the expander ball wont thread off of the decapping rod. So I started in on straightening out the rod its straight and seems useable now , but the expander ball still wont come off of the rod to replace the decapping pin.

So onto the internet to find replacement parts. It seems you can get the decapping rod as a rebuild kit for around 12$ and it seems you can buy expander balls for around 10$. But I cant seem to find an expander ball listed for the 300 blackout die set , my caliper says the expanding ball is 306.5-307 diameter. The good news is the Lee SE3009 just popped back up on ebay so I went ahead and got 3 rods coming for 15$. Looks like I'm back to using the lee dies...

Both of the companies should give you warranty replacement parts for them (Lee requires pictures). What sizing lube are you using? Dillon, Hornady and Redding all make great lubes -- and they really aren't that expensive.

Separate the functions into 2 different procedures. First deprime the 223 brass and THEN re-form to 300. Attempting both operations at the same time is causing undue stress.

Any quality depriming rod should not cause any issues doing this in 1 stage -- beridan primed brass will cause issues, but 2 stages won't help with that.

For the record, I like to do it in two stages also. Decap, clean - then resize. (when dealing with rifle brass)

300blk is a pia. I no longer mess with it.

Lee sent me 2 new decapping pins after i bent one on a universal decapper. All it took was an email and they were at the door a few days later. If you ask them about the procedure for un-sticking a stuck case, they will tell you to use a hammer.

Cleaning the brass in between becomes a separate ordeal. When properly setup, the decapping process is done prior to the neck of the case starting to resize -- thus it's not required to deprime separately. If you clean in between, that helps keep your dies scratch free and clean; also, it allows the case lube to have better contact with the casings.

Lee will replace the decapping rod. As far as ordering from Titan Reloading, have no fear. They are reputable and ship quick (if in stock). I bought my Loadmaster and other small parts from them and I'm very happy with their service

Well I emailed hornady and told them the story, they said I can order the parts to repair my brand new dies from the hornady sales team. They said the parts I need to order are

The spindle is 398567 cant seem to locate this one I am trying to get a different part number
The expander is 396284 6.89$ from midwayusa
The decap pin is 390222 1.99$ from midwayusa

And that the factory 300 aac expander from hornady is 306.5 measurement on the caliper .

Prepped brass for your enjoyment.

Lee ended up sending me 3 decapping rods for a 50 BMG. They ask me to take picture and I did, they sent me a new one. The threads were a tad rough so they sent an extra two. I learned not to use Lee lube with a 50 BMG. I think they had a new one at my house in three days...
