I have looked everywhere and can't find a definitive answer. I did find a thread here from 2015(?) regarding my question but am wondering if things have changed. Does Virginia recognize a NC CHP? Every concealed carry site I go to has maps, etc. that show they do honor NC permits. My son just took his class and the instructor said "no". The Iredell County Sherriff's dept also told him "no". I've even tried to find the answer in the Virginia statutes. I am sure I am missing something so if anybody could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Virginia broke their agreement with us years ago but I believe it has been reinstated. At least they are on the current list published by the NC AG...

In 2015 the libtard AG of Va cancelled reciprocity with 21 states. But the libtards have since been ousted from office and they DO honor NC CCWs now.

There is a great phone app called “CCW” that tracks this kind of stuff for you and let’s you know details of carrying in your state as well as others that would be hard to find anyplace else. I just clicked on it to see what states the NC CCP is recognized and got this.

I always call a sheriff's department to get the answers I need. That helped me last year verifying my USCCA Map which I trust, but verify. The departments were very friendly and helpful... My maps say Virginia is good to go, but I wouldn't do it without verifying. Plus I have to get to Maryland, so that's a no.

We never lost reciprocity with Virginia. The threat was there but went nowhere. GRNC stated a "boycott" of NC "border" people going into VA to purchase products. Especially gas, which at the time was cheap. We were also behind some political action between the two states. Result was, the proposal was dropped.

The only state we lost was NV. That was because they didn't know how to use their computer system to see if our permits were valid. Again GRNC stepped in. One of our BOD wrote them documentation on how to use their computer system to verify NC CHPs. NV reinstated reciprocity a week after I had new material printed. So you might see some GRNC material with NV not listed.

The current status of reciprocity is always available at our website. Our MAP, bottom of the page.

That's not the first time I have heard of instructors teach CHP laws wrong.

Never assume that LEOs know all the laws. A few days after PPP repeal and Church carry veto was overrode, I was asked by an office if I was carrying in my church school. Told him no, it's a school during school hours. His reply was, the law just changed, you can carry now. His training department had spread Cooper's lies as truth.

I had to explain to him, even if he was correct, the effective date of the statute was 1 December 2023.
