So I shoot 45 a wee bit thru 1911 steel frame guns. I love the 45 and the idea of a higher capacity mag in a lighter gun is sexy, lol. Shooting 45 in my 1911's is smooth as silk with zero issues.

I WILL go rent a 21 ,30 or 36 ....but I am interested in some opinions about accuracy, dependability, recoil management, etc.

The 36 really interests me, lol

I have a 30. It is a lot of fun to shoot. It punches like a .45 but I can't say it's recoil is any greater than my Sig P220 or 1911.

On the 30, the grip is wide. I have big hands and it doesn't bother me, in fact I like it. My wife has trouble hanging on to it.

Is this for CC or just plinking? For plinking, there are probably better options not that I would trade my 30.

I have owned both a 21 and a 30, but only still own the 30. I have shot a 36 at the range and just didn't like the small grip. The 30 is the best model Glock manufactures! IMO!! :001_cool:

Well, I carry 9mm daily . I just want to explore other options. I own several 9mm and 45 and have good stock on ammo.I would consider 40, but that is another caliber to stock so thinking a carry 45 as an option. 1911's shoot great and I am a fan but summer carry with a heavy gun is tough for a 150 pound small frame guy.

The Glock 45's are 24ish oz unloaded and light enough to carry daily so I am interested . I will try out and shoot .40 as well , but as I said I prefer to not scatter my ammo needs too much.

I am still learning all this stuff, so just looking for opinions.

My G21 may just be my favorite Glock to shoot but I like to carry the G30, especially with 9 round magazines. I also have a G36 and it is my least favorite of the 45's.

How would you compare the recoil of your 21 to a 1911 ? I am interested in the recoil issues for follow up shots with a 45 in a polymer gun as opposed to a steel frame . Logic would dictate it is different , but how substantial is it ?

I hope to shoot a G21 , 30 and 36 this week but Calibers is high as hell on ammo so I can't be sure to get a true feel for em.

I'd say the recoil is similar but different. 1911 is heavier but the grip is thinner..the two seem to balance out for me but if I had to choose I would say the Glock feels softer...probably due to the much wider backstrap.

I am faster with follow-up shots shooting the Glock...especially long strings. I would say this has to do more with the trigger than the weight/recoil...I think I have a better feel for the Glock reset. 1911 is much easier for me to be accurate/precise with.

I have stock Colt 1911 and stock Glock 21SF.

The first pistol I ever bought was a Glock 21 (back in the late 80's). I liked it and still like them. Great shooters. I think they recoil a bit more than a steel frame 1911, but about the same as an aluminium frame 1911.

I don't think you will like the Glock 21 Wes.....big and bulky. Make sure you try one at the range before buying. The Glock 30 is nice....one or my favorites but still more bulky than I think you will like. The G36 is nice as well, however its the size of the G19. If you really like your 1911's you should take a look at a lightweight CCO style 1911.

I love carrying and shooting my Glock 30 especially during the colder months. Sleeps in a Crossbreed or N82 Tactical holster most days I carry it. The grip is a little thick for some, but fits my hand perfectly. The accuracy of the G30 surprises many of my friends and most can shoot it well. Usually carry with 10+1 and enjoy shooting with the 13 round G21 mags when practicing.

I rented several Glocks at the shop I purchased from that included the G23, G27 in .40 cal, and the G30. The G30 purchase was easy to make that day and I have no regrets since. Most likely a gun I'll hold on to and would like to add the G19 when the right deal is at my fingertips.

I own both a 21 and a 30. Accuracy is very impressive with both, with the 30 being surprisingly accurate for such a compact package. Even though the Glocks are lighter than a 1911, they end up being fairly heavy to carry due to the weight of the additional rounds. Recoil will not be an issue if you are accustomed to shooting 1911's. The 21 is a large and heavy package to carry and requires a nice belt and holster combo to comfortably carry. I carry my 30 with a normal belt using a Safariland paddle holster without any issues. One nice thing is that you can use the mags for a 21 as backup for the 30, giving you an extra clip with 13 rounds instead of the normal 10 that a 30 mag carries.

I hear this comment a lot. Especially from people who shoot the G30 for the first time.

I have a small Tarus lightweight .38 and the rest of my handguns are .45. I understand the multiple caliber thinking. I buy .45 ammo. Done. I traded my 9mm's and 357's off so I could stick with one caliber. Not to say I wouldn't consider picking them back up some day.

I will likely carry the Tarus in summer and glock in winter.

My brother EDC's a G36, I really like that little gun but it jams everytime on my reloads. Although my XD even jammed one time. Never had a 1911 jam on them though. I think the bullet profile is what it doesn't like. I may need to increase the OAL and that will solve the issue also. The bullet is a flat nose hollow point style and I think that's the problem.

I've never seen his G36 jam on ball ammo or a good JHP though.

If I had the chance i'd probably pickup a G36.

Another option you might want to consider is the new XDm 45 compact. It looks like a really nice gun and might fit you better. Some people don't like the grip angle on a glock, and I must say I shoot glocks very well, but if I close my eyes and bring the gun up my sights will not be lined up, the front is way high. For a 1911 or my XD I can close my eyes and bring the gun up and be pretty close to dead on.

I believe the glock's grip angle has some other benefits though, I think it helps control the gun better, since your wrist is actually more in line and also I tend to push the gun down which helps my follow up shots it seems.

In my experience so far, a polymer frame 45 tends to have a little more flip since more weight is on top, but it does not seem to affect me getting back on target.

Glock 21sf - fun and runs like a top. It does NOT like semi wadcutters though, but that's with a Lone Wolf barrel because I'm too chicken to run lead in my Glock. So you can blame the barrel. :) The stock barrel runs moly, plated and jacketed round nose 100%. Accuracy is better than I am...

The fat grip makes the recoil well manageable, at least for me.

I carry a glock 30. I love it! Its crazy accurate. I'm not a super experienced shooter and I can shoot all 10 rounds in a 3" group at 7 yards. Recoil is not a big deal to me. Im 6'2" and 200 lbs. Not sure if that matters. The follow up shot is right on target after I shoot the first round. Gun is easy for me to carry. Welcome to come shoot it if you are in fayetteville anytime.

Also my stepdad has a glock 21. Nice gun. Like the 30 better for carry

I tried the 36 and did not like it.

FWIW, I owned a 36 and 21SF

thoughts on the 36
A nice little carry gun
not so fun to shoot with the small frame
snappy and hurt my hand after a few magazines through it. (i wear L/XL gloves and am 6'1'' 225lbs)
The pistol is a carry pistol and not a target shooter

thoughts on the 21SF
fit my big mitts perfectly
one of the smoothest shooting pistols I have ever owned
very fun and easy to target shoot
very accurate pistol
makes me want to go back to shooting my 1911 for the trigger
for a glock in .45 it rocks

Ok I know I will get hammered for this but I gotta say it. I keep seeing these post about how accurate a glock is . I dont own one but my brother is a glock nut. When we get togather and shoot I can out shoot him all day with pistols that we both own the same versions of ( Ruger P89, S&W sigma 40 cal, Bersa UC 9 mm, Ruger MKIII ) but when I shoot any of his Glocks I cant hit a dang thing. I understand the sight picture is diffrent but I just cant hit crap with them. I know my brother likes them and it seems the rest of the world does as well but I am just gonna say it " I hate them "

I have daily-carried carried two 45's - a Kimber 3" 1911 and a Glock 30

The Glock wins at price, accessories, capacity, flexibility, simplicity and felt recoil. It's easy to find holsters and the 10 or 13 round magazine thing is a nice feature. It's bulky, the grip frame is too short and it chokes on hollow points (in my hands only... go figure).

The Kimber wins at concealment, reliability, accuracy and safety. You have to clean it more often as Kimbers are prone to rust. It's a very precise gun for such a short sight radius. Thin 1911 mags are easier to carry than fat Glock mags.

The Kimber is better at the most important aspects of Concealed Carry, so the Glock is gone. IMO if you like 1911's you'll prefer an officer size to a Glock 36.

Guns will shoot differently in each persons hands. This is why I always tell people to buy the gun they actually shoot best rather than the gun that'd looks and feels best in their hand.

No sweat friend. That's why they make more than one kind of gun. Shoot what you like. If folks don't like it, to hell with 'em.
