Your current 9mm 1911 frame is probably not wide enough to accommodate a .45 ACP width magazine. Additionally, I don't know if the feed ramp would allow the change in caliber.
You would need a new slide, because the hole for the new larger firing pin would need to be bigger, as well as a new extractor.
The cost this project would incur would be better spent in buying a new gun in the caliber you want.
If 1911s are like other gun designs, the breach face for a 9mm will not accommodate a 45 size shell casing.
9mm 1911s are so rare, compared to the 45, why would you bother wasting time converting one? If you want a 45 1911, just get one to begin with. It is probably cheaper, and definitely much easier to find.
THANKS guys, I'll was hoping for just barrell and bolt, but knew if more best to buy .45ACP 1911....anybody want a 9mm?????? mag came with is a .45ACP so can't shoot till get 9mm mag....THANKS DAVID
Did you buy the pistol new or used? I'm assuming used, because any reputable dealer would GIVE you the proper magazine for the weapon. That situation sounds shady.
Just bought new at Gun Show Saturaday in Raleigh, live 2 hours away so when got home discovered all this, have card of dealer, they in Wadesbore...will call about mag....THANKS DAVID
You might want to double check the serial numbers against your paperwork and make sure you got the right gun. If he gave you a different gun than he recorded in his book he should be ready to jump through hoops to help you get straight.
