AK Stocks

So I picked up an AK at a good deal recently.

The guy painted it and I've just about finished getting the paint off. The wood is typical for ak...ugly. And mismatched. I'm going to dye it red, stain it and throw some tru oil on it to at least make it all the same color.

As far as synthetic stocks, I was thinking about picking up that new hogue for end grip as it looks really nice and feels great in the hand.

Questions:

1. What type of synthetic rear stock do you guys prefer? I prefer fixed, but I'm not opposed to folding. I was leaning towards the warsaw length Arsenal rear stock.

2. What grips are most comfortable for shooting?

Thanks for any advice!

A Ak with anything but wood is just wrong,,,,Only exception is a UNDER folder,,,,By the way where did you pic it up.,,Im trying to build my stock back but Im having a hard time finding them at decent prices.
Lots of pawn shop surfing and asking around. A friend of a friend had it. AK prices have gone bananas. A friend showed me the price sheet for what the distributor would charge for a WASR because he said he'd feel bad saying it out loud. They're all $800 on armslist! AR prices calmed down, but AKs are still some sort of previous commodity it seems.

I've got an Arsenal stock-set on mine; I really like the fact that the handguard has a metal heat-shield. I don't know many that do.

If you're not worried about the heat shield, the MFT Tekko U/L handguard sells for a good price. As for stocks, I'd either get a Polish Beryl folder or a Bonesteel Galil-style folder; I'm personally not interested in an M4 style stock on my AK, but that's up to you.

I just got my first AK, and I prefer the wood over "tactical". The guy I got it from tore up the wood stock taking it out to put the ATI folding/telescoping pkg. on it. He also lost the wood hand grip.

Has anyone modified a 5 round mag to take 8 or 10? Is that possible?

Ironwood is nice, but spendy compared to just finding a decent set of military takeoffs. I've seen a couple ak's with the timbersmith stocks installed and they looked rather nice, they can typically be found around $100 for a complete set.
If I was going synthetic, I'd go with either a takeoff I picked up off gunbroker or the like, or I'd order a set of arsenal. If you're wanting to go folding stock you're gonna have to swap out the rear trunion to do it or use one of the ace type adapters.
I've got side folders, underfolders, and just standard fixed stocks. Honestly, I wouldn't go through the trouble of trying to change a fixed stock out to a folder.

I ended up going with arsenal furniture to be compliant since it's a mak. I'm not liking the all black look so the bottle of duracoat in the garage is calling my name.

It's a shame, I've got a wood furniture set that ended up looking halfway decent after I dyed it and stained it "communist red."

If going for a folder, I recommend the Bonesteel M4 tube folder. Allows you to mount whatever mil-spec Ar stock you want. Solid lockup

For fixed stocks; the standard polymer sets from KVAR work fine.
This. I ran the Arsenal poly fixed for a Long time. Switched to a Bonesteel folder with a Magpul MOE. Folder, ban-compliant, and adjustable LOP. For me, it is about perfect.
