Have any of you tried Alliant AR-COMP powder for 223? I will be using 55 grain FMJ bullets most of the time. I have never used any and would like to hear about any good or bad experiences anyone has had with this powder.

I used some to load some 55 Grain Hornady V-Max rounds. They shot well enough to hit a skunk at 175ish yards, in the rain, with the wind blowing, on a bolt action Savage Model 10 XP Predator. MuShu Approves.

The good: It shoots.
The bad: I almost missed my omelet this morning. Got there at 1045, 15 minutes before they stopped serving lunch. Close call.

I switched over all my .223 match ammo from to Alliant AR-COMP a couple years ago. I've been very pleased with it, but I've found it to be a very dirty powder. I'm getting more velocity using smaller powder charges with AR-COMP over Varget.

I'm using it with Sierra 77gr MK and Berger 82gr MT bullets, which are a bit heavier than your selection. I run 22.4gr for the 77gr and 23.3 for the 82gr, both using CCI450 primers. Velocity is around 2680 - 2700 fps from a 20" barrel, 1-7.7 twist. WARNING - 23.3 is a *warm* load and I use a carrier weight.

I have heard some complaints from folks about cycling issues with AR-COMP and a buddy of mine had the same issue a couple weeks ago while developing some loads for NRA/CMP matches. The only thing we could pin it down to was that he was running a small rifle primer and I was running a magnum primer. Using identical bullets, brass & powder charges, my loads worked & his wouldn't reliably cycle the action.

EDIT - here's a group using AR-COMP. 10 rounds @ 100 yards; off the bench with iron sights. Just over 1MOA
