looking for some type of foam-lined heavy duty case (ie Pelican or Storm) for a rifle to keep in my trunk, but hate to drop $200 on it. anyone know of another company that makes something similar for less? or is this a case of "you get what you pay for" and me needing to just bite the bullet?

Bite the bullet! I have several, and they are worth it, but...I did find most of mine either new, or like new, on craigslist.
Got my last 1600 with foam, and the lid organizer for $55...like new!

If you really want to go on the cheap, you can find the "Pelican-style" knock-off cases for around $75. You'll probably be able to find them on the airsoft sites.

Here's an example link: http://www.precisionairsoft.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC080

Other Pelican-type cases are made by SKB and Vanguard. You may find a less expesnsive alternative made by them

However, I agree with everyone else. Bite the bullet and get the Pelican. Buy once... cry once.

I picked up an Aluminum two rifle case for $20 at a bud's pawn shop. Best buy ever made. Bought a super two rifle cast that has a equalizer built in but it was $150. Only problem is that it is too bulky for small trunks. I keep a 700 and M1A in the Aluminum one and a couple of hunters in the shipping case.

If you need a heavy duty case, get a Pelican. There's really nothing wrong with the cheaper cases but like said if you NEED a HEAVY DUTY case, the pelican is the way to go. The 1750 weighs around 25 pounds.... empty.

Midway + Midway discount code used to have the best prices on the large 1750 rifle case.

Give a call to Starlight cases. They have overrun and blem sales a lot. I've bought several pistol sized cases for way cheap. I think Brock is the name of the guy that I ordered from.

called and spoke to an older lady. she said the guy I need to talk to is on the other line, but that as soon as he hangs up he'll give me a call back. no one ever called me back. I guess I'll try them again tomorrow.

If you're not anti China-mart, they sell the rifle size Pelican cases on their website. Unfortunately the price has gone up since I looked last.

In my opinion, only worth half what you paid for it, the Pelican, Storm, and Starlight cases are the best protection money can buy for your guns. Short of wheeling around a safe everywhere you go. Also, I'm not sure about the Starlights, but I know Pelican/Storm will custom cut the foam for you. They can make the fit much better than you can with pluck foam or a razor knife.

Best way to cut the foam yourself is to submerse the foam in water, place the wet foam on a sheet cake pan (wax paper between the foam and the pan) freeze it, then cut while frozen. Wax paper should be stuck to the foam when frozen, so you can leave it on, and draw the outline on it.

If you don't need a case for taking your rifle on a airplane is there a need for a Pelican case? I know several people that have them and they always seem to be a pain to me, I toss my rifles in the trunk in soft cases and go... while they have to move their rifles to soft cases or let them ride loose b/c the pelicans don't fit. Seems like a lot to lug around everwhere also. Maybe its just me, but all my non-surplus handguns and one of my rifles came in factory hard cases and I carry all of them in range bags or soft cases also.

I hope they can hook you up. He used to list his "blems" and overstock cases on one of the sniper boards. Price was deeply discounted.

I also bought some of their pistol cases with a Cabelas marking on it for a crazy price. Seem to think it was around $20-$25 delivered. Picked up 4 of them.

Back in the day, he sold a bunch to Walmart/Sam's Club. They sat on the shelves at the Sam's Clubs for a long time when they decided to mark them down and get rid of them. Out the door price was like $50 for a full rifle case. He decided not to sell to them again. :scared: I was able to pick up a few that time too.

because it's going to be sliding around in the back of my patrol vehicle...along with a spare tire and who knows what else...it needs to be as durable as possible. I won't be taking the case in and out, so weight isn't an issue. size won't be too bad, because it's for a 27" rifle, so I only needed the 38" case.

Brack called back and hooked me up. Really nice guy, great customer service. 38" od green rifle case with upgraded foam is on the way!

Their blems aren't really even blems, they're just the cases that happened to be on the bottom of the stack and have a few light scratches from rubbing against the pallet. who cares if the case has scratches, that's what it's meant for anyway.

Mind if I ask how much? I'd like to have one for my AR pistols...thinking that both would fit in one case that size...even If I have to remove the uppers. Also, my BOV lock box is only 42" ID...so the 38" would be perfect.
Those that wonder why I would spend the bucks for rigid case such as these....I'll be tossing all kinds of crap on/around the case that holds $1700 worth of weapons...that's why!

Voo Doo Tactical...not a hard case, but I really like mine. Has padded storage areas for 2 long guns and 2 pistols. My 16" AR fits nicely in the 36" model with the stock collapsed. I am very pleased with it and have had several people ask me where they can get one.
voodoo's are nice bags.....bought one at a gun show a few months back for my sig522, sold it with the rifle though...been planning on getting another on for my bolt .22lr......but i'd NEVER EVER trust one with a decent rifle...

not that it's top secret or anything, but since the blems aren't listed on the website or anywhere else for general sale, I won't post it here in case he doesn't want that info made public.

just call Brack Wilson at 877-782-7544 and ask about blems. it sounded like he has several in all sizes and colors (black, od green, desert tan), since he refuses to sell any cases that have any scratches whatsoever as new.
