I am looking to get some more ammo cans I have to much ammo and not enough storage. I went to a local milsurp store and they was sold out. So in the Raleigh area where do you guys get your ammo cans from? If it helps I am looking for the .50 cal and 7.62 cans. Thanks

If he's out, there were a ton of them at the Raleigh gun show, various sizes. If you can't make it to one of the shows in greensboro coming up(this month and oct), the gun show will be coming back to Raleigh, Nov 17th,18th. Might be worth the wait.

I've grown fond of these because I can stack up loaded and staggered AR mags in them. Handy. Holds more stuff than the 50 cal surplus cans, especially height wise. It's nice to be able to keep some 30 rounders standing up and dump ammo in the rest of it. The lid has some clearance, so even if they are full of loose ammo I can just toss a few mags in on top and take the box off to go shooting.

I don't care for the zombie thing, but you can peel that sticker off if it offends you. Or you can pay a few dollars more to get the same MTM box without the sticker.

One of them holds is my "tub o' fun" that I keep ready to go plinking if someone wants to go. 6 CMMG AR 22 mags, 6 buckmark mags and about 2000+ rounds of assorted boxed 22 ammo.

Wow I really like those zombie cans . Wish there was somwhere that sold them locally. I might end up ordering them from midway. Thanks guys.
If anyone is passing thru Orange or Alamance Co., Mace Sports in mebane sells these, that's where I bought mine. The new Dunham's Sporting good store at Holly Hill mall in burlington has them also.

I went ahead and ordered me two of the zombie cans it was actually cheaper to order from optics planet by about 5$ because they have free shipping. Thanks guys they look like they hold a lot of stuff and seem to be a lot bigger than the .50 cal cans.

Hmmm.

I have a TON of extra ammo boxes from when cabelas was running the free ammo box with 2100 rounds of federal .22.

I have like 30 of the damn things...

But It sounds like these a a bit taller? Hard to tell from the photo.

I have no extra ones. My son loves the darn things. They do make nifty toy organizers. I need as many as I can get my hands on since we both have stuff we love to throw in there. :)

Late to the show here, but one thing I have not been able to figure out is why someone here does not do a "group buy" from the milsurp auctions down at Bragg or Cherry point. You can wind up getting cans for about 3 dollars a piece or better. Have to get a thousand or two of them at a time, but I go thru those things like goober peas. I will bet I have 80 of them scattered in three states and two countries.

I keep in them: ammo (color coded for 9 mm 40 223 7.62x33 7.62x25 7.62x54R 5.45 22 30.06 etc // silver (they bury real good with dessicant inside and double wrapped in a plastic trash bag. // handgun and ammo cache (again, buried) // nickels (I put away about 100 dollars of nickels a month. a small ammo can holds 196 dollars worth of rolled nickels) // put a wire mesh inside one and buffer with cloth and you have an EXCELLENT small Faraday cage if you are emp paranoid // all sorts of small survival gear, from matches and compasses to space blankets to sporks to small mess kits to sewing kits to fish antibiotics to magnifying glasses to maps to batteries. You name it, if it is small I probably have it in an ammo can. // Spare parts for your various weapons, along with basic took kits to work on them// Electronic tune up stuff (plugs, working computer chip, fuses, different gauge copper wire, light bulbs) for the truck.

These things are versatile, moveable, watertight -- well, I haven't tried SUBMERGING one, but I have heard guys say an ammo bunker took water and one sat underwater for 2 months and the rounds were perfect.... just what I heard. I don't understand anyone who is prepping who doesn't have their shop/storage area crawling with them.

Here lately, they've been selling for quite a bit more than that. The last few auctions I've watched, that were fairly local(Bragg and Cherry Point) have surprised me. I imagine it's due to the big-box retailer types like Gander/Cabela's/etc., bidding on them. These were auctions for cans in large quantities, 3-5K and up, and cost per can ended up being anywhere from $5-10 depending on the size of the can, and some weren't in the greatest condition either.

I keep mine labeled with what type and how much ammo is in each one, and all the ammo is sealed as well.

I've got some brand new ones at home. I'll put some paper or something in one and submerge it in my pond when I get home from work and see what happens.

If you get near the Newport/Morehead city area check with Danny Collins.... last time I stopped he had loads of them in the warehouses Don't know about prices but he is a fair guy to deal with..... On Hwy 70 about 1.6 mile east of the hibbs road stoplight.... something like 5788 US 79 there is a PRO TEC storage sign along the side of the road on your left. Used to be NOLANDS Supply.. Danny has turned it into a military surplus and was working on opening a store front. May be He can hook up

Tell him the sealcoat guy sent ya.....

guys I have a bunch of .50 cal cans. They are in good condition, minimal rust, good seals. I am asking $10 a piece. I am located in far NE NC, but I would be willing to meet in rocky mount for sales of 15+. PM if you guys are interested. These are the metal type. I have found with the plastic ones you can over load them. No worries about over loading with the metal ones I have.
