Poker is about the good times and the bragging rights for me. A bunch of guys with beers and cigars and cards. I love the competition, but the true fun of it is the good time you had .
I am for sure not a high roller, I am a working man so a low stakes game is my preference.
the only time i ever got a royal flush online i lost money , i had the straight flush with people betting into me and the board wound up being the RF so i ended up splitting with 4 players . i also lost with 4 queens to 4 aces . online poker go figure
It seems nowadays everybody is a hold'em player. It's a great bluffers game, but I really enjoy 7 card stud and 5 card draw.
I remember back in the early 80's every casino in Las Vegas had a poker area. By the early 90's, they were squeezing them out to add more slots or a kiddy video gaming room. Now with the "boom", they're all back with big floor spaces or rooms. What goes around... I guess.
I haven't been in good game in almost 7 years - you know, the kind that lasts 2 - 4 days. I do miss those.
Local game up across th VA line I go to now and then. It's a cash game (not tournament). They play a game called FLOP, basically the same as Holdem except every player gets 3 cards down instead of 2. It builds huge pots and huge hands. At first thought u wouldn't think 1 card would make much difference but it's not uncommon for straights and flushes to be sucking hind tit.
I actually played five days a week for about 5 years. It supplemented a great deal of my income. We ran out of a house and actually ran a really nice league. I eventually got married and became a teacher so I really didn't have time to play anymore. I still played at FTP and Pokerstars after those five years. I have recently played at Lock poker a little but there really isn't enough folks to make it really worthwhile.
