Looking to pick up 10 or so 30 round AR mags for the AR I picked up recently. I see that AIM has some decent deals on D&H Industries mags for $8ish a piece. Are they any good? Should I spend double and get Pmags?

Thanks for the help as I know nothing about them!!

My take on AR magazines

(1) Pmags really are very good magazines. They have fed reliably in every AR I've tried to use them in, they're durable and they let you store fully-loaded magazines (i.e., 28 rounds in a 30 round mag) without worrying about undue pressure on the feed lips. Caveat: Make sure they drop free out of your lower before you buy a bunch of Pmags. Some lowers are slightly out of spec and will not release an empty mag, hands-free. You want this.

(2) My range magazines are Brownell's GI mags with Magpul springs and Magpul (olive-drab color) followers. I like these just fine for training, classes, etc. but will not run a GI mag without replacing the guts with Magpul kit.

Bottomline: You'll likely get more mileage out of some Pmags. I only have my GI mags b/c I got a good deal on the metal mags and had Magpul guts on hand to swap out. Once I've confirmed correct and reliable function, I do not use any of my carry/fighting magazines (both pistol and rifle included) at the range.

I've never ran the Thermold mags but I've heard they are pretty cruddy to say the least.

Pmags run great, and aren't a substantial amount higher price wise than standard metal mags. Whichever way you go about it, make sure to get enhanced followers if you can to ensure anti tilting. No reason to get brand new mags without them.

We have several AR magazine options here: AR-15 Mags.

I have D&H mags from BCM with the Magpul followers. They are great quality. D&H makes mags for the mil. They are def good to go. Alot of AR's that come with aluminum mags are D&H.
I can get 30 rounds on a closed bolt. Ive got PMags, D&H, CProducts SS mags and some CProducts 20 rd aluminum mags and all have been great.
Ill bring one of each for you to check out when we meet up tomorrow.

Right now there should be basically 3 ways to go when buying AR mags:

Good metal mags. $7.99-9.99 on D&H, BCM, etc with magpul followers can be found. Sometimes Fusil mags also.

Pmags below MAP pricing. With C&R discounts or coupon codes at JoeBob, Botach, etc.

Lancer AWF mags at ~$18.

C5 NC, Where can I get mags with a C&R discount? I am at Job Bobs looking right now and pricing seems great for the Magpul's. What coupon code are you talking about?

EDIT: DUH! Just saw the coupon code under JoeBobOutfitters answer!

Thanks for all the help so far guys

Brandon-Sounds good!

Fortkevin - You're paying $16 a piece for PMags??? Fuquay G&G has them for $14.50 each.

Bravo Company has D&H mags with the magpul follower for $9.99 each, or $89.99 if you buy a package of 10.

I have 2 of the D&H mags with magpul followers, and they function perfect so far. Still, I'll pay the extra $4.50 for PMags.

JoeBob has has a discout for our forum, that would be a good place to buy. Botach always has a magpul code. If buying at least 10 more you can always as a dealer for a price, they don't hae to honor MAP directly, they just can't advertise lower prices. A C&R gets you a lower price at Brownells and Midway although they are not that great of a deal, although the $15.90 LR308 pmags are good. DSG may have the best metal mag deal, the D&Hs with magpul anti-tilt followers for 10/$85, but if you order more they have free shipping and a $10 off $150 code for AR15.com members, that would make them $8shipped out the door.

So, where is the free shipping coming from? I put two ten packs in the cart and it's showing shipping charges.

I found this code IDUSMARTII15 but it expired in March. Thanks!

A friend suggested Lancers to me some time ago, ordered a few and I've loved them ever since. I still run alot of Pmags but I plan to transition to solely Lancers before too long.

Thanks, That's what I was looking for. I can't decide whether to spend $8 TYD for the standard USGI mags from them or to get the Pmags from JoeBob for $14.10 TYD. hmmmm

Well, I didn't go with either of those. Bought 15 of a guy on Armlist for $4.50 each. We will see what kind of shape they are in when they arrive....
These are the GI mags that were being advertised? I've been trying to get a hold of the guy for a week...lol

If you have any issues, go to the next fun show, and pick up some magpul followers, and you should be good to go.

Whats the outfit here in NC that makes mags? I have several of their 20 rounders, bout $10 ea, and they work fine. They're out in the shed and I dont remember the name. Seems I read somewhere they are used by Canadian Armed forces.
