This five hour class will introduce the beginning shooter to the basics of handgun shooting.
It will begin with a strong emphasis on safety and the proper handling of firearms.
It will cover all the necessary information to safely and accurately shoot a handgun.
This class will also fulfill the prerequisite for participation in our Introduction to Self Defense Shooting and IDPA series of classes.
Our class size is limited to 6 students with 2 instructors.
THE BASIC STEP CLASS will consist of "hands-on" classroom and range time emphasizing the following:
Strong Empasis on Handgun and Firearm Safety
What You Need to Know Before You Handle a Firearm
How to Safely Hand-off and Receive a Handgun from Another Person
How to Look at a Handgun and Determine If It Is Safe to Handle
Explanation of the Different Parts and Components of a Handgun
The Firearm Safety Laws
Range Commands
The Basic Operation of a Revolver
The Basic Operation of a Semi-Automatic Handgun
Explanation of "Single Action", "Double-Action" and "Safe Action"
Ammunition Components
The Difference in a "Bullet" and a "Round"
The Four Cycles of Operation
How to Load a Magazine
The Six Fundamentals of Pistol Marksmanship
The Best Way to Grip a Handgun
The Proper Stance to Shoot a Handgun
How to Aim a Handgun
How to Load, Reload, and Unload a Handgun
Human Target Areas (Where to shoot the bad guys)
How to Critique Your Own Targets
Prerequisites: None -- other than being a moral and upstanding member of society.
Required Equipment: There are two options:
OPTION1: Class Fee of $99:
Please bring the following with you:
• Handgun -- Pistol or Revolver
• 50 rounds of ammunition in the correct caliber for your gun
• At least one magazine
• At least five snap-caps or dummy rounds in the proper caliber for your gun. (We can provide these for you for an additional $15. The snap-caps will be yours to keep and can be used in other classes.)
• Eye and ear protection (we will provide these at no charge if necessary)
• Note taking material
• Rugged, but comfortable attire and footwear
OPTION2: Class Fee of $119:
We will provide the following:
• 9mm Handgun and magazine
• 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition
• Eye and ear protection
You must bring the following:
• At least five snap-caps or dummy rounds in 9mm. (We can provide these for you for an additional $16. The snap-caps will be yours to keep and can be used in other classes.)
• Note taking material
• Rugged, but comfortable attire and footwear
