I should have known that Elliot Management was behind this. Their philosophy is sell out to make the stock go up and make us a boatload of money. No, we really don't care about your core business.

Not to worry...Wally World will be around soon, though it might be tough to get "Walbasscalandstreamdickmart" to fit on the current signs.

This does not bode well for me. Bass Pro royally ticked me off last year when I was trying to buy my wife a rifle.

Home is SC. I work in VA a lot. A Bass Pro in VA had a sale on the S&W M&P-15 Sport. I called to verify they had some in stock or could get one, then drove straight over. Got up to the counter, talked to a guy about what I wanted, he checked the computer and told me he could get one sent to the store at the sale price if I paid for it that day while the sale was still on. I said "let's do it!"

I pull out my SC DL and CWP, which both have the same home address on it and he said "wait while I look this up".

Pulled out a binder...and then told me he couldn't sell me the gun because I was from SC. Why? Because it was against the law. I said "You're telling me it's against the law for you to sell me a long gun here in VA just because I'm from SC?"

He told me it wouldn't be a problem if I was from NC.

I was p*ssed, but didn't say anything and left.

Called Walmart..."Hey, I'm from SC. If I wanted to buy a long gun from you, would you have a problem with it?" "No, sir, not at all."

Called Bob's Guns downtown Norfolk..."Hey, I'm from SC. I'm looking to buy a S&W M&P-15 Sport for my wife. Would I be able to get one from you?" "No problem, sir! We have them in stock." "Huh...I was told at Bass Pro that they couldn't sell me the rifle because it was illegal since I'm a SC resident." "Nothing wrong with you buying one up here at all. What were they asking?" Told him. "Well, we've got them in stock, regularly priced only $10 more than their sale price." "I'll be there in 10 minutes!"

I had that happen in SC at a Dick's when I was trying to buy a single shot shotgun when I was a VA resident. Said if I was in NC I would have been fine.

Glad you were finally able to buy a long gun up here. Hard to believe Bass Pro is so screwed up...probably have a liberal, gun-hating lawyer who provided their rules...lol

I am a Cabela's fan. They make Bass Pro look like a corner store. Booth have high prices but good deals occasionally. When i just want to look around, to me, Cabela's has a better layout.

No surprise here. This is happening across many industries right now and will continue for at least the next few years. We have a very strong dollar right now, low cost of capital, and steadily increasing consumer confidence/spending.

Not really surprising. It amazes me the lack of knowledge that the people behind the counter at the Big Box Stores display.

I sure don't understand it.

But the part that REALLY ticks me off is their reason was that it wasn't legal when it's really a company policy in VA. I say company policy in VA because I called the only other Bass Pro in the state and they had the same policy.

Right after picking my wife's rifle up at Bob's Guns, I called Bass Pro and talked to the manager of the store. Told him what happened, what I ended up doing about it, and how that resulted in HIS store loosing close to $2,000 from me because I took the rest of my holiday shopping elsewhere.

He, of course, knew nothing about the laws and such because he's the store manager, not the manager in charge of the firearms. He asked me if I wanted to talk to that person and I said "No, sir, because he works for YOU. It's YOUR store that he caused the loss of $2,000 worth of business today because he either doesn't know the laws which affect legal sales of long guns OR it's simply a store policy for some reason and his people don't know enough to know the difference between "it's illegal" and "it's our store policy".
