The Bassi Cup Match is scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. on October 1, 2016 and is hosted by Distinguished Pistol Outdoor Shooting Range on Bassi Ranch at Hightowers, North Carolina. Bassi Ranch is situated on 64 acres of new forest in the southeast corner of Caswell County and is adjacent to the Caswell Game Land. We are conveniently located five miles north of Baynes General Store off NC 119, and just two miles south of Hightowers, at 431 New Castle Farm Road, Mebane, NC 27302. Spectators are welcomed to watch this action match from the firing line; children of 17-years or younger must be accompanied by an adult parent or adult legal guardian; 12 and under are not permitted on the range.

The Bassi Cup Match is a fun and exciting match exclusively constructed for the stock 9mm semi-automatic pistol, and will test a shooter's speed and accuracy. The course-of-fire requires 100-rounds, lasts about 10 minutes to shoot from start to finish, and is presented in seven consecutive stages taking place on the front and mid courts of the range. The match is designed to be fired with any factory standard (production) 9mm semi-automatic pistol having open sights and using factory loaded 9mm Luger, 115 grain, FMJ (ball ammunition) rounds. Pistols may only have minor modifications limited to: open sights - competition target-style open sights and/or adjustable rear open sights, a match-grade barrel adjustments, match-grade trigger adjustments, and roughened grip surfaces. No lasers or electronic optics are allowed. Shooters will be prompted with appropriate commands during each stage and will consecutively fire all seven stages when called to the starting point in the front court. A minimum of three magazines is required to shoot all seven stages and shooters will be given one minute between stages to refresh magazines. A magazine reloading table is located in each court where shooters will find the required number of rounds for each stage in marked containers. Between stages, shooters must go to the appropriate reloading table and reload their magazines within one minute. There are no alibis or repeats due to weapon malfunctions or shooter error. Each stage is started at the low ready position. Handguns are to be either holstered between stages or carried in the low ready position (while keeping the muzzle pointed down range at all times) and benched on the reloading tables (with the muzzle pointing down range) while refreshing magazines. The Bassi Cup Match is open to all levels and classes of shooters. Only production-grade 9mm pistols and factory-loaded ammunition will be used during the match to help maintain a balanced competition between shooters. All handguns and factory-loaded ammunition are subject to inspection by the Range Master prior to individual relays. Shooters are encouraged to ask questions early, especially regarding any modifications to their production model handguns.

Registration and Entry Fee

The registration and entry fee to compete in the Bassi Cup Match is $69 for all seven stages! Shooters must register and pay the entry fee before September 25 to secure a position in the relays. The match starts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016. Shooters should be on the range by 9:00 a.m. to ensure they are assigned their correct relay time and are present for the range safety briefing which begins at 9:45 a.m.

Anyone can register for the Bassi Cup Match; however, the match is limited to the first 50 registered shooters; the sooner you register, the better your chances are of making the cut. Registration begins on July 4 and will remain open until September 25 or until there are 50 shooters, whichever happens first. If by chance there are less than 50 registered shooters on the day of the match, registration services will be made available at the range before the match begins. If there are more than 50 registered shooters, a standby list will be available on match day to replace no-shows, so come prepared to shoot.

Shooters will need to bring 100 rounds (two boxes) of factory-loaded ammunition to the range, or purchase ammunition at the range for $40, on the day of the match.

One suggestion, having a rimfire division may bring more folks in the door.
There were 50+ shooters at yesterday's RF match in 97 degree heat. Definitely no lack of participants!

I encourage you to attend a few local matches (even as a spectator) to get a better idea of the price vs value that is offered in this area. The $69 match fee is nearing what a pro level sanctioned match (with a prize table worth thousands) costs.
You can quickly look within the shooting competition subforum to see that $20 is a typical match fee for a 5-6 stage 2 gun match.
That is really all the market will bear.

Our goal here at Distinguished Pistol is to provide a unique and challenging match that can be watched by fellow competitors and spectators, and at the same time cover the cost of staff, range operations, safety monitors, etc., in an exciting and beautiful venue. Competitors enter a court to shoot and are watched by all who wish to observe. With the amount of time, effort and expense that goes into hosting a match of this kind, it's hard to squeeze it into $20.

I might be able to host a 4-stage RF pistol match for around $40, one that has a combination of multiple engagement and edge/face targets. We could easily do BC Stages 1,2,5 and 6 in a RF pistol match and keep it very challenging. Thoughts?

Hello, I've got a couple questions:

1) On the stages that require movement, is it required to shoot while moving or does the shooter simply move from point A to point B and then engage the targets?
2) Are Lula magazine loaders allowed since we're on the clock for reloading?
3) Will this be a two day event?

I'm asking because shooters would be smart to take the whole minute to reload mags. This gives them a little rest between stages. If all 50 shooters take a minute to reload before each stage, that comes out to 7 minutes of mag loading for each shooter, for a total of 350 minutes. That's 5.83 hours or mag reloading.

Not every shooter will be super fast, especially since the stages put a premium on accuracy and the targets are relatively far away when compared to something like IDPA. The targets are often smaller. IDPA target vs clap pigeon, for example. So I suspect that it might take a shooter about 4 minutes just to shoot the course. On some of the stages I could see people leaving about 2-3 seconds between each shot. Especially if they are trying to hit clay pigeons with a stock pistol at distances of 30, 40 and 45 feet. For teh Grouper stage, you can bet I would take every bit of that 60 seconds allotted to make sure I got the best group I could on a target 60' away. This match is scored by points instead of using seconds, therefore, it is always better to use the time you have allotted and made solid hits. Assuming people game it the way I suspect they will, it will take them about 4 minutes to shoot the course. 50 shooters comes out to 200 minutes, which is 3.33 hours of actual shooting.

Now we factor in resetting each stage for 50 shooters. I'm not sure how long that will take, exactly, but if you had an army of volunteers (and I would suggest using the 50 shooters you have standing around to help), then you could probably reset the stages in a couple minutes. 100 minutes is 1.66 hours.

That comes to a total of 10.82 hours. Sunset on October 1st is approximately 7pm. If shooting starts at 10 in the morning, you might be shooting a couple hours past sunset. If you get 50 shooters I would humbly suggest you consider moving the time up a bit and getting an earlier start.

I'm so glad you've taken the time to read about the match, it will be quite challenging and super intense. The above description does not include all of the rules in detail. The reloading portion will be moving much faster than a whole minute (within a minute), reloading must be performed quickly as it is also timed against penalties and points. The detailed match rules are forthcoming on our website, soon. Targets will be repaired by our staff and will move quickly between relays. Regarding your first question, yes, competitors will move along a 12' path while engaging 4 targets in stages 2, 5 and 6. There is no set requirement for the shooter to be actually moving when shooting, however, shooters must be directly in front of the respective target as it is being engaged and must be directly within the target's lane. Yes, shooters may use any type of re-loading device available, but must still pull the pre-counted number of rounds from the corresponding containers between each stage. By our calculations, the match should take about seven hours to complete. The match will run for one day, rain or shine. The starting point and two re-loading stations will be covered by canopies.

A second version of the match specifically designed for three-person teams (a competition between the Triad and Triangle regions) will consist of stages 1 through 4 on the front court only and will be announced later. At the moment, we are looking at limiting the team matches to only five teams per region, for a total of 30 shooters. It is scheduled for mid-October, but we haven't selected a specific date, yet.

It would be my pleasure to meet you in person at our range and show the c-o-f to you. We believe the Bassi Cup Match is a fast-paced, very challenging blend of practical and precision.
