Best of the "almost pocket pistol" 9mm's?

So I've carried a couple different guns over the last couple years, but they're either been too large to cary comfortably/conceal. These include: G19, 5" 1911, 3" kimber 1911. OR they have been so small and difficult (and unenjoyable) to shoot accurately, such as the Kel tec .380, NA .22 Mag.

In the winter I have no problem carrying a gun like a G19, I even carried my 5" Levi peetz today with no problem at all thanks to Rock Holmes holster, but i was only able to carry it because of the specific outfit (large cozy flannel shirt, untucked)

I'm looking for a sub compact 9mm, but I want one that I can carry all year round. Currently I am considering the G26, SR9c (I have owned both, but have not "carried" either), Khar CW9 (I really like the thin frame and the fact that the trigger guard doesn't take up so much real estate on the frame allowing for a little more 3rd/4th finger purchase. I haven't held one- but it looks that way). I have even considered shrinking down to a .380 for the Sig p238- a much better shooter compared to the LCP/Kel ted due to the trigger- but still a very small frame and underpowered caliber (still better than the 9mm or .45 that's in the safe)

I shot the G26 and SR9c very well at the range, and I love the fact that I can keep a 17 rd mag for the SR9c in the glove box. The Khar is a sexy little gun, and looks like it's about the perfect size, but have never shot one. What would you compare it to? looks like a longer trigger pull than the Glocks and SR9c.

Any other suggestions. i want to exhaust 9mm options before I move to .380. Also, I don't mind a .40 if it doesn't change the size any- like the G27. I feel comfortable with either caliber- so i'd go with the gun in either caliber if I found a deal.

p.s.- I prefer IWB carry. OWB in the winter. I really like the new holsters (king tuck) that allow you to tuck in a shirt. Also, guns that I don't like are the SW mp9 and XD's- only because I don't shoot them as well as I shoot Glocks and others. Not crazy about the LC9's, but haven't shot one- do they shoot any better than their younger brother- the LCP? the long trigger pull is a killer for me.

Thanks guys

The LC9 is a good gun. Its trigger pull is not too bad, although I will say it is not as butter smooth as the Kahr CW9. I like the ambi safety on the Ruger, and it just feels better to my hand. I have close to 1K rounds through mine, and I have had ZERO issues with ammo or gun problems. I don't shoot ANY +P ammo through it, though. I have fed it Tula steel case junk, WWB, American Eagle, Federal Premium, Hornady CD, Winchester PDX, PowrBall....you name it...NO problems, and accuracy on the little blaster is pretty impressive too, especially for 42 year old glasses wearing eyes. I like the sights on the Ruger better than the Kahr, and it fits PERFECTLY in my Galco IWB leather.

If you are going to be in Fayetteville anytime soon, PM me and you can come by and shoot mine at some of my steel targets in the back yard. Check out my website, too..

I am a BIG Ruger fan, and have been for many many years, so I may be a little biased, but I traded my CW9 for the LC9...I had an SR9C also, but I prefer the FS for the doublestack pistol. I carry it IWB sometimes instead of the LC9....

They sell for $399 brand new, and they are bringing $375 used all day long, so even if you get one and don't like it, it will be a $24 lesson learned. Laserlyte even makes a side mounted VERY low profile laser for it for only $99.00

I am SERIOUSLY considering a second one to leave in the truck and retire my Sig 226...

I had a SR9c, and LOVED shooting it! I shot it better than the G26 or mine. I just didn't ever carried it concealed. I didn't even have a holster for it. Like I say, I love the trigger on the SR9c, and the fact the I can use the 17 rd mags in it (like the glock)
I wish it didn't have the front slide serrations- just seems like something to cause more friction when drawing it out of the holster. Plus, the recoil spring on the one I had was way to stiff for me to rack the slide using the front serrations with an underhand grip.
I'll probably go with an SR9c if I can't find a smaller alternative.

I carry a G27 all year round. Even in shorts and a t-shirt and have no worries on printing. I do carry a Sig P238 also, but only when I'm feeling lazy and don't want to carry the weight of the 27. A G27 with a Wild Bills IWB and you are good to go no matter what you wear.

Can I make a heretical suggestion? It might not be the gun, it might be the holster (and/or belt)

I've had a carry permit since '96-'97. My everyday carry guns are a Browning HiPower .40 (very similar form factor to a 5" 1911, and in fact fits my 1911 holster almost perfectly) and a Glock 23 (exactly the same form factor as the G19).

Up until 2003 I carried in a suit and tie every day. After that my dress became a little more casual but I still meet with clients on a regular basis. On off days I can get away with an untucked flannel overshirt or sweatshirt. The rest of the time is in business casual dress. A Milt Sparks Executive Companion for the BHP.40 and a Milt Sparks VersaMax II for the G23 have been remarkably comfortable and concealable. I've worn out one Sparks belt and outgrown/overlapped another . I've recently gone to a Beltman horsehide belt and have been quite pleased with its rigidity and ability to fit with dress wear.

I'm not suggesting that my solutions would fit your needs, but it would definitely be worth considering a better holster/belt combo before going out and buying a new gun.

My Kimber SIS Ultra (3inch 1911) conceals better than my Glock 27.

Yeah, the 3" 1911 was a little too wide to fit comfortably in all of my clothes, and I don't want to go out and buy new clothes to accommodate carrying.

In the summer, I wear shorter shorts (usually polo or similar) that fit snug, not baggy cargo shorts which would make carrying easier. I usually wear a T shirt OR a columbia PFG shirt so printing is usually easy with those- gotta be careful about that.

For me- I need it to NO larger than a G26. the G26 is just a little thicker than i prefer- if they made a single stack G26- I'd be all over it.

Back to Khar's- any experience among you guys? how is the trigger? I'm considering the CW9 and POSSIBLY the PM9, but I think it'll be too small.

I don't wear tight "booty" shorts so I'm good. :001_tongue:

If I absolutely HAD to choose....The CW 9
I had one (traded it for an LC9 as mentioned up there^ a few posts) and I liked it, and shot it well, but the LC just shoots better for me.

The CW9 is a well made pistol, and it conceals well with minimal effort...The PM fits in a pocket sleeve exceptionally well, but I use an LCP for the pocket role...I went all Ruger!!

I would probably buy another CW if the price was right just to have a decent Kahr in the collection, and maybe keep it in the shop for plinking when I get frustrated at one thing or another....

Hate to tell ya but you need to revisit your wardrobe, belt, and holster selection. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to carry a G26, SR9c, or 3" 1911 while searing a t shirt in the summer. What holster and belt are you using? Where IWB are you carrying?

I carry an SR9c in a Remora clipless holster. I love it, conceals great (even under a T shirt), and the front serations don't effect the draw.

Can't recommend the gun or the holster enough.

Kahr pistols are excellent concealled carry pistols, but unless you downsize to the P380, you will not like them. The Kahr P9 or CW9 fits in a officers sized holster. I carry a Para Carry 9 or a Kahr P9 using the same holster. I find no difference in size, weight, or comfort.

You may want to look at the airweight J-frame revolver options. These revolvers are very light and easy to conceal.

I would re-evaluate your carry gear and dress code choices. Carrying a pistol is not comfortable, and you must adapt to it.

my 2 cents...

you say you didn't like the kimber small 1911 because it was too "wide" and that what you get needs to be no larger than a g26...

i'm about 106% sure that even a full sized gov model 1911 isn't as wide as a g26...

i've been wrong before.. (but not yet this year. :thumbup1:)
