I know I am setting myself up for ridicule but I don't care.

So, I bit the bullet and bought a BPM Patrolman with the Ultralite Extreme handguard yesterday (you can wait in the pics) and was trying to add the picatinny rail to the bottom but cannot figure it out. The nut is too big to have it attached to the rail when trying to attach it and I cannot get the bolt in it when it is already inside the handguard. Anyone know the trick to adding the rail to the handguard so I can add my vertical grip to it?

    image.jpg Nice choice of rifle.
Just use those Allen head screws that come with the rail sections. I have a rail on the bottom, with forhand grip attached to it, and one on the side for a light, currently not in use.

That's how mine is set up as well. Hope you like yours as well as I've liked mine. Good on you for buying local too!

My handguard doesn't look like yours, fieldgrade.

If I put the nuts in the handguard, I cannot reach them with the supplied screws and if I attach them ahead of time, I cannot get them through the slots due to the screws blocking them from sliding in. True M-Lok accessories have the screws and nuts already on the accessory and are small enough to slide through but the supplied ones aren't like that and the nuts are too wide

No nuts required for the Magpul rail sections that came with my rifle. Those holes are threaded.

Well damn. They changed the handguard. @shadowsbane said they had a couple of days ago. Maybe he can shed some light. Interesting that when you check the Barnes webpage the pics of the handguards look like mine. Maybe they haven't updated it.

Yep, which is why this is so vexing. Even the "manual" that came with my carbine shows a different handguard. I sent Andrew an email earlier but he hasn't responded yet (not bashing as I know they are very good at getting back to people), so I figured I would ask here too

I do not have one handy but when I get into work today I will see if there is some different trick to them. Will repost somewhat soonish. But as far as I have seen it is a standard mlok setup, and should go in the way you are attempting.

Those aren't MLOK nuts. Those are the nuts you use to install those rail pieces to standard MOE handguards.

Let me rephrase that. I don't know the difference between standard rail sections and MLOK rail sections. You may need to get complete MLOK rail sections, which includes the proper hardware, or you may just be able to get the proper bolts and nuts, or the only difference may be the nuts. But those are definitely the wrong nuts.

Guessing since I don't have either.

Looks like Barnes updated their rails to the M-lock style. The ops piece of rail has nuts for magpuls original style as 613jmm said. So it makes me think if Barnes is still including that rai. They are compatible.

I can't see the bottom of OPs rail. If it's like the old style the bottom is threaded and I bet the magpul screws thread in, no nuts needed. If they are open holes. It can still be used. Slide the nut alone down the inside of the hanguard to desired location. Use a dowel, bar or anything that works to hold down the nut as you screw in your screw. Tighten down only enough to allow the " wings" to scotch against the inside hand guard walls. Repeat for second screw. Then finish tightening both down.

It is an MLOK slot. Without the other nuts that sit partially inside the slot, the screws will not reach.

Yeah. That's MOE. You need M-LOK.

That is what I thought but was told that the attachments would work with the M-LOK slots. I just went ahead and ordered a M-LOK vertical grip and am going to quit messing with the included attachments. Not sure why Barnes included them other than maybe they didn't update the included accessories when they switched to the new rail but I am just going to ignore them for now

Call them. I sent an email with a question a few months back and didn't hear back. It wasn't a critical question so I mostly forgot about it.

Now to Andrew's credit, when I had a problem (of my own making) that stopped my rifle after I bought it 3 years ago, Andrew called me himself.

From what I understand, they are a stand up company

Easy solution is to take it to where you bought it. Either they know a way to make it work, or should change out the incorrect pieces for you.

FG&G is where I bought it and where I was told that it would work. Not sure I am going to be able to drive out there any time soon and it isn't that big of a deal.

Well, heard back from Andrew, who basically said that they were a freebie, even though they won't work with the M-Lok slots. Said that they have permission to include the proper equipment from Magpul now and will start including them. Also stated that the nuts were available on Magpuls site. Not the response I expected from BPM after reading previous reports from owners but not totally unexpected, I guess.

I'd give FG&G a call and let them know what's going on with it.
