The Mirror story is the ambassador is dead. That is serious in light of regional tensions. I haven't seen a confirmation on other sites that he died.

ETA: On Rush's show today, he said he died.

This could be no bueno. Turkey is...no bueno. I would not be surprised if Russia/Putin went nuclear (metaphorically) on Syria AND Turkey. Their relationships have been warming lately, too.

Turkey is in NATO. Let that sink in for just a second.

World Wars have been started over similarly stupid events.

Well it was in Turkey but do not think it was a Turkish agent. We will see from the reports what will happen. Why did he not have security?

Nice (France) type attack in Berlin today -- 9 dead so far. The effect is moving toward a new government in Germany, a NATO country.

NATO isn't going to do anything. Erdogan is bat-shit crazy, and he goes from pro-NATO to anti-NATO in a moment's notice. No, NATO will quietly step back from this....

The NATO treaty doesn't allow for tiptoeing quietly away.

    Start with Article V....

Since when has the NATO treaty mattered to anyone who did not want to invoke it? Honestly, do you think the NATO countries will galvanize over this and do anything other than say lots of things?

Doesn't matter. Time will tell. NATO won't do anything stronger than put out a statement "condemning the action that occurred against our member constituent."

From a Turkish national with some intel:

"Apparently the guy was a cop but he wasn't appointed on any protection duty tonight. He wasn't supposed to be there but he got inside by showing his police badge normally people won't be allowed in with guns and got checked by detectors before getting in. He was not employed that night by any means.

Russian ambassador was one of those politic figures that refuses to have bodyguards or private employed protection etc. He didn't have any protection that night. It was a art center opening and attacker came from behind and shot him a few times. He then screamed "Allahu akbar (God is great). Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria! Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria!" "Get back! Get back!" the man can be heard shouting in Turkish as he waves a gun. "Only death will remove me from here. You won't be sleeping safely at your homes when our lands aren't." After that he shouted people to get back. He had the chance to injure or shot anyone else but apparently he came there for only killing the ambassador. People safely got out and police did an operation inside, the guy is dead and it is confirmed as a registered police officer."

Also I've read from people who listened to the attack, the gunman was indeed from Turkey (he had no foreign accent). Seems this was a nationalist attack.
