Curious about this line:
  • Lowering the penalty for carrying a firearm with a valid CHP on posted property from a misdemeanor to an infraction.
Will this cause more of you to ignore the signs? With only the threat of an infraction (the same as a speeding ticket), are you more likely to carry more places now? Or were you already ignoring signs?

Honestly, I've seen very few signs to begin with. About the only conspicuous one I've seen is at some ABC stores and I prefer to go to one that isn't posted. A little sign that you have to look for or read a rules board isn't conspicuous and is therefore not legally posted anyway. That bring said I think this is a very good change to the law. A sign, or rather violating one, should not be cause for a criminal charge.

Well, I got around to reading the law and specifically the section on State Preemption and I think I'm more confused than ever. I used to think it was straightforwards, but it seems to me that the new version allows municipalities to unilaterally declare properties they own as gun free zones. I'd appreciate it if someone can translate it into english and tell me what I'm missing.
