I need advise on a battery charger that I can mount under the hood of a seldom driven truck. This truck is a backup vehicle and may go 3 to 5 weeks without any use. I would prefer a quick disconnect that I can mount to the grill, since this truck is used to respond to fire calls. Budget is less than $150.00. Thanks

I've been using this model for years and my batteries have lasted for many more years then when I didn't. It comes with a plug that you attach directly to your battery. It also come with alligator clips for any other vehicles that don't have the plug.

Not to steal the OP's thread, but I am looking for a 2 Amp battery charger. The one I have is a 10 Amp. I bought a battery for the Kawasaki Bayou and had to add the acid to the cells. Then it calls for an initial charging from a battery charger with no more than 2 amps. Any ideas? I'm afraid my 10Amp would blow the thing up! LOL

This is the motorcycle version. I've used it on my Buell since 2007.

Im curious, what is the gain by doing it this way?

It seems that the engine bay heat would not be good for the charger.
Ease of use. This truck sits in a drive way about 50ft feet from the house with no protection from the elements. So any external charger needs to be weatherproof. Also this truck is used to respond to fire calls, so the connection and disconnection needs to be quick.

I've been told that these are basicly just battery maintainers.....not chargers. I need an initial charge on that little ATV battery. I might just take it to advance auto where I purchased it and make them charge it!

Battery Tenders provide a small charge to keep the battery full of juice and condition the battery. Some arent designed/capable to recharge a dead battery, but BTs can, it will just take a while.

If you go Garyshome route, any autoparts store has cutoff switches that bolt right on the battery. Just keep in mind you will lose some radio settings along with computer drive information, which your inspection station needs when they hook up their computer

They most likely don't have a charger that's anymore appropriate than what you have. Hook it up to the 10-amp and check on it often.

The reason your lead acid battery came without acid in it is because ATV/MC batteries sit on the shelf for too long. The opposite of that is they would have to order your battery and it will take a few days. Most people will walk out saying they'll find it somewhere else. You can pay extra for an AGM battery that's ready to go. If you have ATVs or MCs you need a battery maintainer.
