Chick-Fil-A - No weapons on property???

Went the Chick-Fil-A in Matthews for lunch today, talking on the phone with Mrs. Bashman on the way in so I wasn't paying much attention to what was going on around me.
Ordered, ate, and then on the way out, I noticed something on the door that I've not seen there before:

Yep, "No Firearms or Concealed Weapons".

I didn't speak anyone there about it as I was with a coworker and we were short on time.

Anybody else seen these on any other franchises?
I've not been on the forum much the last couple weeks, has this been discussed already?

I will go to my local Chick-Fil-A tonight and see if I see anything similar. This will be the Salisbury/Innes St location. Like golfer says Ive always stood by Chick-Fil-A for Christian principles and they support Fire, EMS, and LEOs by offering a 50% discount on all orders.

Probably a local thing, Lots of Bojangles restaurants have it too, but I have most often seen it at almost floor level. I know the one in Louisburg had it there last time I was up that way.

Wow, I've never seen one of those at a CFA; in fact the franchise owner of the one I frequent (Concord Mills) saw me OC'ing in there one day and stopped by the table to talk guns. Great guy.

I have to assume this isn't their corporate policy and they allow individual franchise owners to make the determination.

I sent a message on Facebook to their page. We'll see if I get a response.

I know last summer when all the uproar over CFA was going on, they received a LOT of support from gun owners, both nationally and locally.
Specifically at this location. This is very discouraging.

Sometimes cops or other groups come through restaurants, gas stations and try to get stores to sign up to "crime prevention kits" Which include the standard height tape at the doors, and the no gun signs as well as a few other things. Might of been that, that happened and the manager just didn't pay attention to everything. I mean it will reduce crime right?

Its legit. I called the owner. He is upset cuz a kid come in after church on Wednesdays open carry, was asked to leave as he was "making people feel uncomfortable" and refused. Cops in Matthews told him to put up a sign.

He indicated that he is a concealed permit holder, and that concealed means concealed. So he is advocating breaking the law just so he can get rid of some kid (22 year old) that comes in open carry.

He has some pretty wild ideas that the kid will "come and shoot the place up" etc, but he has personally never talked to him. He did say that he would welcome a solution to it, but when I suggested he change the sign to exclude concealed he wasn't interested.

I say call the news up and lets get this into the public.

Upset because someone was exercising their 2nd amendment right? But not exercising them the way he wants to? I shall exercise my rights of my money going to someone else then. I shall contact this fellow also. Thanks ruger...

If you call him, please do not be rude. He is just over reacting and the best thing we can do is win him over, not make him dig in further cuz of "Gun nuts"

I did tell him that I was offended that he put up a sign saying he doesn't want my business, and seeing that I work near there, I will make it a point not to frequent his store til this is resolved.

Thing is, if they ask you to leave, you leave. It is your right to carry, and their right to say they don't want you on their property at that time. Don't have to like it, but if this kid had not refused probably wouldn't have a posted sign now.

And 22 years old is not a kid when we have the same age and younger willing to and are dieing to preserve his right to carry also. Thats what bugs me more. I will be curtious to him. i will also remind him of who stood up for them during the national fiascoe.

Yeah and I am not sure how that was even handled, the 17 yo son of the owner "supposedly" asked the kid to "take it outside" and he refused. The owner wasn't there.

My take:

I respect personal freedoms, including property laws.

There's no law against open carry, so the kid open carried.

The kid was asked to leave, he should have complied. An owner really doesn't need to give me a reason. It isn't my business/land. If he asks me to leave, I need to respect his rights. The kid did our cause absolutely no good by refusing to leave. The only thing the kid accomplished was making himself look like a donkey's patooty.

The owner shouldn't be advocating that we break the law. If I carry concealed beyond that silly little sticker, I'm breaking the law. While I'm at it, that goes against some of the values of that CFA is supposed to represent.

Lastly, I don't do fast food anymore so I don't care. :)

I can see this as a touchy issue with room for different opinions, but the one thing that is disturbing is that someone who has a concealed carry permit is putting up a sign prohibiting concealed carry. Seems a bit Diane Feinstein-ish to me...

I don't know. Sounds like he is looking for the easiest way to keep what he views as a trouble maker away without drama. I don't agree with the "solution", but he needs to look at his bottom line, and currently he believes he stands more to lose than gain by having this guy in his store. Everyone else is just collateral damage really.

Yeah, that kinda irked me too. I asked him why he wanted to declare his store a victim zone, and he asked "what do you mean?" I told him to look up where most shootings occur, yep, gun free zones, cuz law abiding citizens will leave their guns in the car, or won't frequent there. I think he was shocked when I told him I was offended that he was discriminating against me as a law abiding citizen. Dollars to donuts he is a carpet bagger from a northern state.

I frequent that exact location with the kids. I won't be going there while it's posted and will let them know why if I'm over there. I agree with the comment above about all the support they got from us last year. There are two others locally that are just as well run and may be cleaner. That location does get a more diverse crowd being on 74.

I've always been under the impression OC was cool around here. I don't do it but I support it. CFA is the last place I would expect people to freak out. I wonder if it had anything to do with the way the kid presented himself. If you look like a thug and OC, people are gonna freak out anywhere
