I also like the Winchester Silver tips. If you reload, then of course you can really fine tune it!!! leverevolution is good as well, I've heard some hunters call that stuff "burger on the hoof" over on the Marlin Owners forum. ;guntoot

If this is your first levergun....Welcome! It becomes an addiction :)

My marlin's love the winchester brand 150 grain silver tips. If I do my part, the 336W will shoot 1" groups at 100 yards with it.

I've heard of a few shooting the 170's well, but all of mine have done best with the 150's. My handloads try to duplicate the Winchester load as close as i can.

Maintenance on a lever gun isn't bad. wipe 'er down with an oiled cloth every now and then, and you can clean from the breech end by removing the screw in the lever, and sliding the bolt out of the back of the receiver. Marlin lever guns are simple to work on and maintain. A lot of guys clean their levers from the muzzle end. You can...but be careful! A nicked/scratched crown can mess up your accuracy.

Thanks for all the advice. I found some folks selling a variety of rounds, but I recall hearing about Leverevolution. I am gonna try a few while I get myself accustomed to this beauty. I don't hand-load (yet), so for now it'll be commercial ammo.

Dumb question time here...does the tip of the leverevolution make these rounds such as the 357 round too long to chamber in a revolver?

I've shot LeveRevolution in my .357 GP100 with so-so results. Yes, it chambers and fires, but I think the powder is to slow for a short barrel.

Have also shot it in .44Mag out of a 5" SW629, same so-so results.

Both were excellent in the lever guns though.
