Been thinkin about this most if the day yesterday...

There is a small family run store five minutes up the road from me. The family is from India, are now US Citizens, and they are Hindu. This is the only convience store I will stop at because they are super nice and friendly, give all the kids that come in those little Dum-Dum suckers, they volunteer in the community, and keep a handgun under the counter lol. They are genuinely glad to see/talk to their regulars.
We have never spoken about religion prior to yesterday. I stopped in for my weekly tank of gas, and as I was leaving she tells me 'Merry Christmas'. I have never said that to her or him, because, well, I was pretty sure they are not Christian and some otherwise decent people get bent out of shape over things like that.
So, obviously, it caught me flat footed a little and I echoed the sentiment back to her. Then I asked her if she was Christian, and she got a big smile across her face like she was reading my mind.
Her response: 'No, we aren't. We're Hindu but that does not give me any right to tell you how to practice your religion.'
A few moments later in the conversation, she tells me 'Just because I'm not a Christian doesn't mean I can't wish you happiness during your celebration. People really need to get a grip on what it is to actually give a $h!t about someone other than themselves.'
For my part, I'm glad this family came to the states and, more so, they settled in my area. I wish them nothing but happiness and success.

I just wish I didn't have so much trouble telling them apart from those other folks, you know the ones that want all us Christians dead.
I'm thinking the Hindus are a kindly and peaceful bunch and I've heard they make good neighbors.

It sits directly on the corner of Hwy 150 and Hwy 274. Gas pumps have a yellow 'Solo' awning over them.

Oddly enough I was pondering this very thing earlier today. I'm agnostic and my wife is jewish. We both wish clerks, store owners, employees and coworkers merry christmas during this time of year.

Saying Merry Christmas isn't saying "Hey I'm Christian how about you". It is acknowledging a time of year that people are supposed to be kind to one another and think of others before themselves (it would be nice if people did this all year long but alas).

If I were in a muslim country this time of year I would wish them a happy ramadan.

Speaking of Christmas spirit what do the naughty children have to look forward to?, Why Krampus, it is a little known fact that he is incognito most of the year and goes by @fieldgrade and lives in the containment area.
You better be good cause here is a pic. He hauls around snake's to scare children with as well.

YES! I'm the same way. I've lost friends over this crap.. I say merry Christmas! Happy holidays is bull crap..... If someone says merry Christmas to me or happy Hanukkah (iPad spellcheck sucks) or even happy quanza. I smile say thank you and repeat the statement back, with full goodwill.

It's such bs that people can't say happy "whatever your convictions may be" to someone for fear of offending them. Acceptance IS NOT fearing that your beliefs aren't ok. It's believing that they are respected.
