Yeah hyatts seems to be 100-300 above msrp, they are always busy when I go there to browse

 

ANd...they were every rude to my wife about a year ago, which was the last time I've been in there. And it will be the last time...

 

They have a really high over head in the high end part off town it's in .)

and most of their guns go to New York for murders, straw purchase shop of the year.

Larry, you can beat down on price, but it's worse than buying a car.

 

I agree. They are higher than most other places. The selection is pretty good though. I find they are $100 to $200 higher than most other places. Although I want to support a local business, but I have a hard time doing so with them. I stopped in a few weeks ago and saw the 25th anniversary glock 17 for $999. So I left. Come on Larry, thats a bit much. But they stay in business never the less. So I guess it works for them. I will spend my money elsewhere...

 

I only go there to try on holsters. Then I buy elsewhere. I don't even speak to anyone in there anymore. It's useless, they're rude and my money will never grace their till.

Yeah i saw a guy that was a bit suspect buying a gun there.. I would definitely have to question some people. and even refuse to sell to some people.

Gun shops must absolutely suck in the Concord/Charlotte area if the selection they have is considered "pretty good".

I stopped in a few months back, and was completely underwhelmed at their selection of pretty much everything.

The ONLY thing I thought they had an "ok" selection of, was holsters. And 90 percent of their holster were of the universal type.

AND everything was overpriced/above MSRP.

 

I received a 20 dollar gift certificate for them for Christmas and refuse to use it due to not wanting to deal with them.

As a friend (and board member) told me once never play "I bet you don't have a ____" there because you'll probably lose. Everything from 1911s to cheap ARs, to ARs worth buying, to Barrett 50BMGs to competition shotguns and everything in between.

While I agree that anyone paying the sticker price for their guns is a moron, they will usually negotiate on the price and if they don't come down enough..feel free to buy somewhere else.

When I went, they couldn't have had more than about 30 pistols and 40 rifles on display...And that's probably over estimating what I saw.

Accessories was even worse.

yeah you must have gotten there at a gun show time. they do have a very good selection. they have guns lining the walls and filling the display cases..

and just like others, i will go there to look and get my hands on something, and check sizes. then i pay my money elsewhere..

 

Funny thing some guns prices are outrageous but I did see a nib polytech m14 for 899.00 and I'm sure they are willing to nego a little..only thing I bought from hyatts was a arsenal ak74 stock, Roger sold it to me for 20 bucks which is fair

I've been to Hyatts to look around several times. I always thought they seemed high on prices but had a large selection. I did however order my TC encore pro hunter with a 25-06 bull barrel. I got a fair price, just barely more than the cheapest online combo i found.

 

Hyatts charge way more then what you would pay anywhere else. If you walk in the store you would see guns running 200 or 300 above msrp. The trick is that they honor there online prices. I first went to hyatts to look at a 30sf. They had it listing in the store for 659.99. I then checked online and saw the online price was $579.00 then I called them and ask if they honor they're online price which they said "yes" I then went to go purchase the gun and when I got there the sale person was trying to give me the run around saying "this is how low he can go such and such" I proceeded to walk out and that's when he said " okay, you got me $579.00. It's strange but I think they get a lot of money off stupid people who don't know about guns and will walk in there and buy the first thing they see without doing research. Every experieince I had a hyatts had been bad expcept for this one where it kinda worked in my favor.

I'm no business-matician, so maybe it's just too far above my low brow to understand...but what in the heck kind of business plan is this? No, seriously...I'm just as interested to know this nearly useless bit of trivia as I am to know how many moving parts there are on the space shuttle. Is it a mechanism to discourage thugs and other undesirables from frequenting their store? Is it a remnant of the owner(s)/employee(s) just wanting the upper hand on a customer (by having the last say in whether a person buys the gun or not based on their willingness to negotiate)? What is so damn difficult about putting a priced as marked tag on an item and giving it your best shot at that price the first time around?!?!

The vast majority of other stores in today's world are "what you see is what you get" and that's typically a competitive, fair market price. Only places that share the recognition of such scum holes as car sales lots price things effectively as "ask me for your special price." Just because the gub'ment has beaten gun owners nearly into hiding by making guns so taboo and relatively hard purchase doesn't mean gun shops should have the "well then you can go try to buy it somewhere else" attitude--which is what I take an operation like Hyatt's to have.

To the poster who said they had 70 guns, I am not meaning anything by this at all, just making sure you were at Hiatt's. With the coin store next to it it's as big as a grocery store. They usually have that many used.
Only asking because I doubt they take guns to a gun show, they handed out pamphlets last time I saw them there. Do they still go to the show? with people standing in line to buy guns in there......one of the only places in Charlotte I would feel better in a vest on.

And as above, I don't go there. The point about the haggling is exactly why I don't.

I must say after reading all of this that I have known Larry and his crew as long as I have been able to fire a weapon. Yes there prices are high and yes they are like a car dealer and ya have to haggle over prices but I have never in my entire firearm buying life had a bad experience. I just bought crimson trace grips for my kimber just a few weeks ago and I got them for the same price I would have gotten them on Midway plus a military discount as well. Cigar you are right if ya dont want to haggle go straight to larry and deal with him.

 

My point is that I don't want to talk about the price...period. When I buy boxers at Wally World, I pick up the 4 pair bonus pack, position the packaging in my cart in such a fashion as to not have some male model's "bulge" staring at me or winking at passer bys, I head to the checkout, pay, go home, and feel like an executive with crisp fresh boxers for at least 4 days. It should be no different for buying a gun (emphasis on there being no haggling about the price in the boxers purchase adventure). Only in cases where something is out of the ordinary should you have to talk about the price to get it lower, as with any other product.

Maybe I'm just too introverted...or maybe I'm sick of people not having a customer service attitude, and instead they have a "how can I upsell or guilt the crap out of you" attitude. Not accusing Hyatts of having that, but it is certainly the norm rather than the exception these days and I've become jaded by it. Hence my preference to see your best price up front.
