I have a nice WOA 20" barrel...anyone in the triangle that can cut it to 16" or 18"? Or, convince me why I should not do it.

I may have it cut to 18" in November or december (Merry Christmas to me??) as we are paying off our mortgage next month. I have a 1-4 scope so thinking something for out to 500 yards. I do not hunt and I do not compete in designated marksman-type matches, so the 20" barrel is lost on me.
