Sunday late afternoon, Brian West and his brother were shooting with some friends out on a country property. Brian had just taken off his safety glasses when he decided to take one more shot...the bullet hit a metal pole and broke apart, spraying pieces of lead back towards the kids. Brian actually caught 2 pieces of metal in his left eye. He went to Duke where the family stayed for about 15 hours before they were sent to the eye center for surgery. Surgery was performed Monday about mid day. Unfortunately, Brian's lens was too damaged to save and it had to be removed. He also had extensive repair to his cornea.
Please pray for Brian's healing and quick recovery. He is afraid now that his vision will not be good enough to get into the Marines...his life time dream. He has been pretty depressed since his reassessment appt yesterday when the doctor told him that he isn't sure if he will be able to see well enough...once the eye heals from the trauma of the injury and the surgery, he will have to have a lens implant to see if he can get his vision to return...please pray for patience and strength for Brian, his parents Mark and Lisa, and his siblings...this is going to be a long process. Thank you all for your prayers and support.
