Sunday is Dad's day!
Supposed to be a scorcher!
If my daughters have their way, I'll likely spend it in a combination of air-conditioned cars, houses, restaurants, stores.
If I have MY way, I'll spend the day at Range 37, unless it's just too hot, but they have a covered range, and it's been a LONG time since I shot anywhere besides in the yard, and my AR could use a good "wringing out".

It seems that as the years go by, I'm more and more inclined to completely do away with every holiday except Christmas.
I tell my kids every year NOT to buy me anything, and if they want to come by, that's fine, if not, then call if they wish.
Not to sound like a multiple grinch...but I detest the commercialization of holidays, and the suggestion that money needs to be spent for these days, else you're good for nothing.
I think even Christmas should be a bare bones celebration of Christ's birth...no "purchased" gifts exchanged.
The best father's day that I could possibly have would involve a hug, a note, or a nice phone call from my children say'n "let's go fish'n!". My years of preaching financial responsibility to them would be hogwash if they spent money on me because society has told them that they must.
Sorry to sound like a party pooper, but I feel guilty if they ever spend any money on me.

That being said...last year I asked that all of my children join me for a day kayak trip. One had to work, but the rest came...and I had a golden day!

I'll be at Emerald Isle at our annual family reunion. Luckily my grandparents get an ocean-front cottage with 10 bedrooms, so we all go have fun. I'm not sure what I'll be getting this year (I thought the SR9 was my gift to myself hehe), but my wife seems excited about it. Time will tell.

Happy Father's Day to all you other papas...hope it's a good one.

Breathing, if I could get out of that I would.

I am with Snal on this one also. Told my family to get me nothing. Wife make me some dinner and I will be happy. I try to explain that to my wife all the time. The US has commercialized every single "holiday" possible. Hardly anyone celebrates the birth of Christ but rather complains that they did not get what they wanted for Christmas. Or complain about being broke at Christmas. I put most of the blame on the greeting card companies. If it is nice I will grill out. Hopefully go out shooting.

I agree with snal, too.
Tonight....I'm going to the pub for three fingers of Scotch and a Cohiba Churchill.
Saturday....if it doesn't rain again, mow the lawn. I can hardly contain my enthusiasm.
Sunday....kick back and watch the race. It's a road course, so it'll probably turn into a nap.

I think more people feel like this than you may think... me for one!

We'll be at the in-laws for lunch after church. Me and the wife and my kids. Her brother and sister and their spouses and kids. Full house.

Then we'll all drift back over to our place and hang at the pool for the rest of the afternoon.

We just got back today from a 3 day whirlwind tour of the western part of the state. We left Wednesday evening for Carowinds. Stayed in Ft. Mill wed night. Opened and closed the park on Thurs. Got up this morning and headed to Boone/Blowing Rock and bummed the parkway for a bit (LEGALLY ARMED, YAY!) and back home this evening. Next couple of days are going to be more relaxed.

And tomorrow my wife and I will celebrate 11 years married (almost 14 together). 10 years ago she made me a daddy for the first time, 5 years ago for the second.

My wife always feels compelled to buy me stuff for Father's Day and I always insist that she doesn't. She does anyway. Since we won't be around for part of Sunday, she presented me today with a birdbath and a hibiscus tree. Just what I needed.

Add me to this list too.
I tell my children not to get me anything for ANY holiday.... they never listen to me though.
When my wife and children ask me what I want, I always say nothing.. that I am very fortunate and buy what I want when I want it ( within reason).... but if they MUST buy something buy something that I'll use like:

A new scope, bullets, primers, cases, etc.

This year we are getting ready for my son's upcoming wedding so Sunday I'll be checking out places to hold the reception and stuff like that.
My Daughter did ask me where I would like to eat... I'm thinking Thai or Vietnamese for something different.

Since it was Father's Day, my wife didn't give me any grief for wanting to drive up to Camp Butner to shoot in the CMP EIC match today.

The bummer was that I drove all the way up there (2 1/2 hours) to find out that it had been cancelled. :frown:

I spent most of my father's day in the car, but I did get a gift bag from my 3 yrd old. Contents included a bag of Oreos, a can of silly string and a slinky. Gotta love it :001_smile:
