There's is no shame in reporting this. I would be willing to bet there are others here (who will remain hidden in the shadows of embarrassment) that have this same issue!!!

My work stalls have the style of toilet paper dispenser that has a backup roll stowed above the current in-use roll. There's a little track inside the mechanism that allows the roll to fall down into place when the current roll ends. Well, until today, I've never been able to get the damn thing to drop down! After much mutilation of a fresh new roll and jimmy-ing open the lock on the dispenser, I get to the new roll. But today, behold, I've cracked the code!

[que drumroll, please]

You push down on the empty roll and it triggers the release of the upper roll, thus allowing the roll to drop into place un-destroyed! [que large cheering crowd noise]

Now, if I could only figure out a way to get the new roll started without tearing into the first few layers...thereby making it look like a fricken kitten broke into my stall and played boxing bag with the first handful of paper that comes off the roll...
You are an engineer sir, you clearly have been over thinking this whole process. Step back and take a simpler approach......;sofa
