I thought it was pretty well known that FireClean was nothing more than natural (read: vegetable) oils with some kind of higher heat tolerance additives. This isn't news.

I picked some up at a gun show when it was not-so-new and have been using it on my ARs and handguns, including one handgun that does not get shot much. It has yet to gum up. I also have some Hoppe's, some Froglube, some other kind of CLP with a number in the name that I can't remember. I shoot quite a lot, and don't mind trying different products. The Fireclean does make cleanup afterwards quick, and so did Froglube, and so did some other CLPs that I tried.

What's the big deal? Anything you buy has tons of markup. Look at contact lenses. They cost THREE EFFING CENTS each to manufacture. But you're paying for research and development (not saying there is tremendous research in gun lubes), advertising, packaging, taxes that the company has to pay, employee salaries, machinery, and oh, let's forget, PROFIT.

Geez, some people sound like whiney liberal biz-nitches. And most of them have their own blog.
And some folks feel the need to defend their paying $75.00 a gallon for crisco. :D

I clean my guns because I enjoy it. Not because they need them. In fact, I've considered buying another Mosin just so I can spend time cleaning 70 years worth of grime off.

I know that for what I use my guns for some cheap motor oil or some grease from the auto store would suffice just fine. But I rather enjoy trying new products and seeing what innovations come out.

That said, Froglube is probably the last "expensive" stuff I will buy, as it is probably just minty crisco, but I like it, it works, and it doesn't pose a risk to the kids. And when my 5 year old insists on helping me clean my guns and gets angry if I do it without her, that's important.

And rapeseed is such a naughty word.

Meh, no need to defend if you assume that's what I'm doing. $15 for a bottle of lube that will likely outlast my SS barrel in my AR. I don't see that as a problem.

I know some fanboys out there will stand by the products they like to the death. I'm not one of them. FC works as advertised, much the same as most as the rest of them do. If it didn't, I'd happily say so. It's not a miracle product, but it does work.

And like B00GER said, it's non-toxic and I shoot and clean with my kids, so that's a plus.

I just don't see the big deal.

I bought something called Rand CLP or something like that. Its nontoxic, probably vegtable oil. When the guy tried selling it to me i said if it'll clean the black off of this I'll buy it. I handed him a gas piston from my AK. Cleaned it right up. Who cares what its made of, it won't kill you and it works.

And made/imported in NC. I think its owned by a German company(?) but the label says NC. We use it at work extensively. Should have waited to double check the label before posting this. Oh well, its the internet, do your own research.
It's packaged out of Kitty Hawk NC. Plus, its the only lube that has a test where they coated a bunch of Rifles and shotguns with it, chunked them in trunk, and then pulled them out 25 years later; only to have zero rust, and shoot flawlessly. Plus its freaking awesome on leather boots and wooden gun stocks. It's main ingredient is mineral oil.

It sure does stink ..... But it works.

The guys running the company have some balls.

For those who love Fireclean and don't understand the controversy, feel free to pay $10/oz. For everyone else who likes to clean their gun well, only to find the it gummed up after letting the gun sit for several months, it's available at the slightly lower price of $0.06/oz.

I have been using it on one of mine for a few months and zero gumming up. It makes cleaning a breeze and that's with an aluminum 22 can. Hasn't gummed up any of my other stuff but again only been about 4 months so far.
That's good to hear. I haven't thrown enough .22 downrange yet to take them apart to see the results. I saw this youtube vid and figured it would be worth a try…

Hands down best cleaning stuff I have ever used in Babersol shaving cream. The thick white stuff.

For a AR you can foam it up, stand by it turns yellow then dissipates. Wipe off and you are done.

If you ever used WipeOut read the ingredients of the two products.....
