Just found out my buddies dog was shot..... I pup sit quite often and love that dog. He was here until last weekend. I don't know any details about any of it I just know a guy shot him and is now in jail on felony charges. No idea of the story. Hoping at least his kids weren't around and that nothing more sinister was going on. I do know I want to beat the hell out of whoever that guy is. If my friend didn't do it I must assume the guy was still armed.......

His last trip to my house. Yes he's a pit. He's the sweetest dog ever. Wouldn't hurt a fly. Never met a person or animal he didn't like lol.

Basically a cat, he loves to lay by the heat! I just ordered him a dog bed so he didn't have to lay on towels his next trip.....

I feel really bad for his little boys, he's been around their whole life and was a constant companion.

If I find out the whole story I'll let you guys know. I just needed to share

Not nearly enough details.

Was he shot in his home while lolling in front of the warm air vent? In the woods a mile from home? Was the alleged felon just being an asshat, or maybe defending his own children?

You folks have obviously never been in an area where dogs are a problem or feral. Man's best friend is not always friendly when off the leash and away from the owners. Much worse in groups.

I do hate that Pit's get a bad wrap. I my self I didn't care one way or the other until I me Ashley (Fiancee now). She had 4 Pits, one died. All are rescuse and whie you think the would be filled with the blood of hate and evil. They are the most loving dogs I've ever meet, even after their owners beating the hell out of them, leaving them out in the snow and etc. One of Ashley's dogs named Angie had the worst background and hates men (almost beaten to death by a nut job who happen to be a male). It took a while but she warmed up to me and now when I visit she is glued to my side. Alot can be learned from a dog.

Now I'm more in love with the breed than any other dog I've personal called my best friend.

I hope the scum get's what is coming to him. Sorry for your friend and your lost.

I agree to little info. I do hope that if it was unjustified that person gets the rightful punishment but we also can't just jump to conclusions. There was an off duty officer in Mooresville that shot and killed his neighbors German Sheppard about a year ago. The animal control and sheriffs department cleared him of all wrong doing. but the neighbor put up a 5x8 ply board that said Mooresville police officer Tim Taylor killed my dog, then called the news hit and Facebook. The officer and his family got death threats from all over country. The media of course only reported the poor familys side of the story about their loss.
Well Turns out the officer was walking with his child in the middle of his land something like 6 acres and the dog with a history of aggression was of the owners property started charging him and his daughter. So he used his personal firearm and shot the dog like three times and it sure got twisted up quick.
So I'm not saying there is more to this story but you never know what the real story is if your just hearing one side.

I was thinking the same thing. Honestly with the amount of details in the OP this is like getting upset over an article that just says "19 year old boy shot and killed" and that's it other than information about how much he was loved by his family and what a good kid he was.

If it was an unjustified shooting then there is no excuse, but just because a dog is gentle and loving to it's family does not mean that dog can't flip a switch and go primal on a stranger. I have seen it in several breeds of dog that were gentle and loving until one day they weren't. Just like the 19 year old that was loved by his family but that day decided to break into a home if the rest of the story is told.

The reason that Pitts and other breeds of large dog like dobermans, german shepards and rottweilers get a bad rap has more to do with their size and strength than anything else. A Cocker Spaniel being aggressive and snarling at you may be able to break the skin but I have watched Pitts swing from tires by the strength of their jaws and Rotts bite green sticks of hickory, 1" in diameter in half while playing.

To put it another way, if a 100 lb scrawny 15 year old decides to bow up to me I will most likely laugh and slap the hell out of him. If a 300 lb body builder does the same thing, I will most likely reach for my pistol.

We just need more facts before I can decide how to feel on this one.

Yeah, not enough info. What felony charges is the guy in jail for? Does it have anything to do with shooting the dog? Was the dog on his owners property or on the shooters property? Is there a leash law where the dog lives? Was the dog in violation of the leash law. If so, the dog owner also bears responsibility in the dogs death. Did the shooter know the dog? Does the shooter have young kids and see a pit roaming his property? I see you live in Jackson Co. Is it in a rural area? Did the shooter have chickens or any other animals and notice a strange dog on his property?
Lots of rural folks will shoot any dog that is not theirs that they find on their property, it's just the way it is.
If the guy just shot the dog for no reason and it wasn't on the shooters property, then yes he is a total scumbag.
For whatever it's worth, I'm a dog lover and could only shoot one that was attacking a person. I still would try to stop the dog without shooting it first.

I agree there isn't enough info. I can't get him to call me today. I will add it when I get it.

I see the flip side of the coin and I am currently going off my experiences with dog and owner. So I don't fault the questions. Owner lives on 12 acres in TN farmland. I know the family was home eating dinner an hour before (called him to ask a question) and I know in the winter time he stays inside the truck if he goes anywhere. This leads me to think it was at home. For a fact, in 9 years he has never been out of earshot. I have let him stay out all day and calling him once will have him at the door in under 20 seconds and he only stays with me occasionally. Also if the boys are around he's never been out of sight. I so agree that none of this is concrete. But this leads me to believe that it was on his property.

Also the man was arrested for shooting for killing the dog. Which I believe wouldn't have happened if there was a slight chance of claimed self defense or anywhere but the owners property.

This results in how I feel about the person in question. I also willfully admit my feelings on the subject are driven by emotion, experience and educated guesses.

My OP is more about the loss of a good friend/family member and the nefarious and/or shady circumstances just make it worse. As I said I will update when I learn the whole story.

Thanks gang.

You know it must have been in self defense if the guy that shot the dog is already in jail on felony charges. Geeezzzzzus

Alright story as it was told to me.

He had been playing all day with the neighbors dog. At one point they were down the hill, playing at the tree line on the neighbors property. At the bottom of the hill is a trucking company of some sort. An employee there saw the dogs in the tree line (no idea of distance) pulled out a .40 caliber pistol and shot him six times. My friend hearing close by shots, hopped in his truck and went to his neighbors (a retired older gentleman) to see what was going on. His neighbor had been watching the dogs play and knew they were down the hill and could see most of what was going on (I've never been there so I can't detail the area or line of sight).

They both drive down to the business in time to see the guy putting the dog in his trunk. My friend becomes understandably irate and is screaming at the guy. The whole ordeal apparently drew quite a crowd for the outskirts of a tiny town and the police were called.

The man was arrested for cruelty to animals after admitting he killed the dog just because he was a pit bull (and yes he had a collar on). He was also charged with brandishing a firearm, discharging a firearm in town limits, attempting to hide evidence and a couple other things. Witnesses said he didn't shoot at the other dog (unknown breed).

So basically, yeah screw that guy. What a senseless tragedy that ripped a furry family member away because some dumbass decided an entire breed of dog is bad.

what a piece of shit.

i have a major soft spot for pit bulls and that kind of shit just makes my blood boil.

i hope he gets the book thrown at him and i am so so sorry for your friend's loss. i can't imagine the grief he must be feeling. he showed major restraint not killing that man right then and there.
