That's terrible. I hope your friend makes a complete recovery. I agree, that bond is insanely low and the shooter sounds dangerous.

He was charged with more than that.

He was charged with "assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury", which is as severe as you can get before going to murder charges. AWDWWITKISI is a class C felony, while assault with a deadly weapon is only a Class A1 misdemeanor.

 

I guess I'll be the first to say that more information is needed. Bond was on the low end but you also have to remember it's not for punishment.

With a bond that low it would almost seem like him and 3 other guys tried to beat a guy up, going so far as jumping in his truck as he tried to flee until the older fella felt like he had no choice but to shoot........ Hypothetically speaking.

I could see that bond being so low if it was a case where he had no priors and is not considered a threat to anyone else... IF this was a domestic squabble, the guy is not likely someone that is a danger to the public at large.

 

In my district it's recommend 10-250k for that charge. So mekender is correct. More than just charge goes into setting bond.
