Hey guys I am going to start gathering the parts I need to build an AR soon. I plan on checking the Dixie show for some deals in Raleigh this coming weekend. I know I screwed the pooch and missed the $49 Palmetto State Armory sale but they are still reasonable at $79. I also see that aimsurplus has Spikes lowers for $79 with free shipping. Is there a vendor at the upcoming show I should look for that will allow me to get a lower for <$80 and avoid the shipping/FFL hassle?
I am still doing research on what parts to put in the lower but I am not in a huge rush....at least not yet. This board as already been a good resource for me and I'll certainly post a detailed build list before I make any purchases.

No Particular vendor but I have seen a few of them have lowers for under 80. Not at every show but the past few.

STAY AWAY from some of the lesser brand names. You might end up with a MMC or the like and then you've got more of a headache than saving the FFL transfer.
This. I saw a LOT of off-brand lowers at the last show in Charlotte. Even then they weren't very cheap. Finishes looked and felt cheap, markings were not very good looking and the overall quality and feel of them didn't impress me.

I spend the extra pennies to know I'm getting a quality lower.

Good to know, thanks guys. Sounds like a Spikes or PSA may be the way to go for a few extra bucks.

I'm sorta hoping someone has BPM lowers at the Raleigh show next weekend. Another lower isn't really on my to-do list but one of them at a reasonable price would motivate me. Been trying to spend some money with them for awhile now since they are locals and all. I'll find something to do with it I'm sure.

If doesn't say stag colt or smith on the side i dont even mess with it. I've heard good things about spikes lower but i pay the little extra and get what im use to. I don't think ive ever seen a lower under 90 at the Dixie. Im going have to keep my eyes out.

Mega, Aero Precision, LMT, Spikes, Bravo Company, Barnes ... just to name a few all make excellent products.

You'd be surprised who's roll marks are on lowers that come out of the same factory. Most of them are OK, my biggest gripe is goofy gaudy logo's and txt on them. I bought a pair of T-15's from Tactical Innovations awhile back just because they were as plain jane as you can get. They did require some minor fitting, and I'd look elsewhere just for that. I've seen a few other models that were pretty clean looking.
