First: I've got a bunch of ammo.

I could probably keep shooting just as much and have enough to get me through a year+++

However, I've noticed that I've definitely curtailed my recreational plinking these last few months... it didn't seem intentional either, but its a noticeable difference.

I've shifted my spare time to other interests and the days of going out with 3 bricks of federal bulk and coming home with none seem fewer and farther between. Anyone else doing the same?

btw- I cant imagine the pinch its put on the folks that were accustomed to buying ammo the day before they go shootings (kind of like the way I go fishing, get the worms the night before  )

Sadly, most of my "pre-scare" purchasing was made on the SD side of the ammo counter. I am in fine shape if SHTF from a hollow point and steel core standpoint, but was not well-prepared as far as range ammo.

I got complacent being used to my LGS always having more than enough range ammo, didn't take advantage of several opportunities (sigh...even immediately after Newtown) to purchase 1,000 rounds of 9mm ball for practice purposes.

I have enough plinking ammo for my rifle, and even enough to take a course. Pistol-wise, I've got enough for one pretty intense course, or a couple sessions a month at the range. Not nearly the every Saturday AM, and sometimes one "lunch break" a week that I was accustomed to.

I'm definitely ramping up my dry fire practice to 3-4 times per week due to all of this, and given the opportunity (fiscally reasonable of course), won't be caught like this again.

I must say that even though I've got 1,000+ rounds for my rifle, and probably 1,300 rounds between 9mm (shot and trained with mostly) and .45 (nightstand), I'm now a bit of a hoarder that is not willing to go below where I am. Luckily, a good amount of this ammo is the "expensive" stuff that I either will not shoot at the range, or cannot shoot (steel core).

I had about 2k of every caliber I shoot. I had toned down my range time, but have had to nearly stop all together. I'm at about 400 rounds of every caliber I shoot, and am not really willing to go lower.

I can't find ammo anywhere, and if I do find it, I'm not yet willing to pay the asking prices.

I've got loads of store bought SD ammo stored up for my pistols. But I found myself lacking the amount of rifle ammo I'd like to have. I'd been building a stockpile of components. And now lots of my nights and rainy days are spent at the bench

It hasn't changed my shooting habits because I was prepared for this and I never really went around wasting ammo anyhow. It HAS changed my loading habits. I'm gearing up to load calibers I had always considered to be not worth the effort. I'm also going to learn how to reload berdan primed brass although I hope it doesn't come to the point of actually NEEDING to reload it. I'm even giving casting a second look but I haven't started down that road yet.

I completely stopped shooting. - It's not so much price that concerns me, but availability. If I was at the range and shot 5 boxes, I'd buy 6 or 7 on the way home. Can't do that these days with the scarcity of everything.

I'm now reminded that I should probably go pick up some SD ammo. Decent amount of 9mm, but don't have much 40sw.

I spend much more time cranking the handle on that SDB.
i stocked up on components pre-scare.
i could use another two or three cases of federal 22lr bulk pack.
dern AR22 eats it like candy.

In a nutshell, i haven't slowed down one bit.

Even though I reload, my range sessions are ammo rationed. Before I usually shot 200 rounds for each gun, now it's 100 rounds.

I'm now reloading at least one caliber a week and putting it in stock. Waiting for the 357 dies to show up to start doing those.

Buying components whenever I find them at sane prices.

I have not been to a range since November. There are two new Rugers sitting in the safe that have yet to see range time

Even before the scare(s), I didn't shoot as much as I used to years ago.

Back in the 2003-2005 time frame I went shooting at least twice a month and was going through several cases per year of 7.62x54R, .223, 5.45x39 and 7.62x39. Even shot .308 regularly, South African surplus was available and reasonable back then. This not to even mention pistol shooting, which I did regularly but not in as much volume as rifle calibers.

I basically cut back a good bit due to not having as much time after that, but the steady ammo price increases of 2005-2009 didn't help matters either. As recently as about 8-10 years ago I was buying brass .223 for 13.5 cents per round and 7.62x39 was 8 or 9 cents. .22LR was less than 20 bucks for a thousand rounds and it was readily available anywhere you went. 9mm and 40S&W were $6-$7 per box of 50. Now that the cheapest centerfire stuff generally starts at 30 cents a round or so, it takes a whole lot of the fun out of going out and burning through 400 or so rounds in an afternoon. I have plenty stashed back, but the replacement cost keeps me from wanting to shoot like I used to. Pulling the trigger is a lot less fun for me when it costs nearly half a dollar every time I do it.

I still shoot enough to remain proficient, but my days of recreational plinking on a regular basis are pretty much over with anything centerfire.

Haven't done any shooting lately either. Same situation as some of the others. I have a decent amount of ammo for most of what I shoot, but it's kind of at a level now that I don't want to drop below. Just haven't really been able to find any ammo lately(priced within reason anyway). I think if I get lucky and find any at this point, I will use it to go to the range or shoot a match. Just don't want to drop below what I have now. Really sucks not to be able to go shoot and be able to replace what I use. Hopefully, things will get better soon. I know prices will probably not make it back down to pre-crisis levels, but hopefully they will at least become reasonable and in stock again. It's a hopeful sign that guns are now back on the shelves again, so hopefully ammo will follow at some point soon.

I've found that I am more "purposeful" when I go to the range. As in I go to practice, zero something in, or test a new load. I don't just go "blasting" anymore.

I also really started concentrating on reloading. Even though avaloability kinda sucks, prices on components have stayed pretty level. Given patience you can still find the stuff. So I now reload my two primary calibers.

I also started collecting stuff for calibers I don't load yet, or purchasing shotgun shells even though I probably fire less than a box per year.

A lot! I have enough ammo to ward off a small army but I am not willing to simply shoot it without being able to replenish my stockpile. In the near future I will be buying a Dillon SDB so I can get back to IDPA and some USPSA. Then the problem will be finding components....

I have 3.5k of 5.56, 10k of .22 and between 500-1000 of other calibers. Plus lots of brass, 25+ lbs. of powder, but am down to less than 3k various primers. I haven't changed my rifle and plinking at all, but I have had to slow way down on handgun shooting. I have the least amount of ammo for them and reloading supplies for them. I was lucky to have stocked up over the past few years...

i've been lucky in the fact that my life has sped up enough to keep my off the range already....and the fact that I had stocked up a little before hand. Reloading has kept me going more than anything, though....and that's all i shoot anymore. I only have like 8 or 9 boxes of factory, non .22lr, on hand....but plenty of hand loads in everything.

.22lr....well...i'm down to around 1 full case...and that sucks. I've stopped bringing .22lr's to the range and it kills me because I haven't even SHOT my .22lr in SBR form yet... I'm finishing up a .22lr bolt action for my g/f tomorrow, though, and I'll take her shooting soon....but I'll only take a little ammo with me

Since ammo became problematic, I've only been to the range once. I have enough on hand for a few good sessions, but don't want to part with it with replenishment at these prices. I've changed my priorities and as things recover and over time I plan to start reloading and accumulating a much larger reserve stock.

Because of the shortage, I'm shooting rifles pretty much exclusively, practicing my distance shooting with scopes some, but even more-so with iron sights.

It's a lot of fun to extend the distance enough to be able hear the impact on the target delayed from the initial "bang" (with electronic muffs), ...and this style of shooting also slows the ammo burn-rate waaay down.

Speaking of the shortage, I just received a box of 500 Silver Bear .223 that I ordered online eight months ago. :)

I can tell you this. It's killed my business off a lot. Not 100% but down 80%

But it's slowly coming back. This is why we offer AirSoft. But I got to get you people to believe in it!
