After 277 days, I can finally see the bottom of the jar. My wife filled this jar with 365 "kisses from mommy". I give one to my 3 y/o son every night before brushing our teeth and going to bed, and we talk about "mommy working in Afghanistan".

Just wanted to share the idea with moms and dads facing deployment, and even grandparents looking forward to their next visit.

Thanks for the good wishes, and I'll pass them on to her.

The 12 months with HER gone is a heck of a lot harder than my last 15 month vacation to Iraq.

It's working out for the best though. I left just before he was born, and took my R&R when he was 6 months old. Now she's gone. The bright side to this....we'll BOTH be retired by the time he figures out what it's all about.

I just don't understand how other families make it through multiple deployments with older kids.

I don't mind at all bikemancs. She saw the idea online somewhere, and "tweaked it" to work for the deployment.

That's a great idea. It's folks like you and your wife that makes this the greatest country in the world, thanks for your duty and sacrifice for the freedom of all americans. :79:
