Intruders killed in Hickory home invasion

MARCIE YOUNG
Staff Writer

Two men were killed in Hickory late Wednesday during a botched home invasion, authorities said.

Shortly after 11 p.m., the men, who were dressed in black and were wearing masks, forced their way into a home on 33rd Avenue in Northeast Hickory and were shot and killed by the house's owner, said Maj. Coy Reid at the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.

Reid would not name the owner and said that authorities Thursday morning were still trying to identify the men, who appeared to be in their late teens or early 20s.

The owner has not been charged in the killings, Reid said, and the case has been given to the District Attorney's Office.

That makes my day!

Once identified, the invaders surviving kin should be held financially responsible for any house damages that occurred during the invasion.

...and the carpet cleaning, Stanley Steamer charges extra for blood.

while i dont see that the releatives should be held responsible for litigation expenses... i would like to see an inititative where the state ordered the BG's property seized and sold off in order to compensate the victim of ther crime...

What he said.

If they would do something like that I think it would make some people think twice.

yes it does, but i read this...

The program does NOT compensate victims for damaged or stolen property or for pain and suffering.
and im guessing that the funds for this program are gathered from property seized from the criminals... and im talking about, total seizure... single guy with no wife or kids kills someone in a robbery... they take his car, house and everything in it, sell it all off and use that money to pay the victims family... any thing left over gets donated to the nearest elementary school...

kinda similar to how Israel wil bulldoze the house of a terrorist... or how some larger cities will bulldoze a crack house...

and thats why the ones that live through their attempted crime should be forced to work to pay for the damages they caused... and im not talking about restitution orders that are never paid back... im talking about a sentence that specifies hard labor at $xx.xx per hour until the debt is paid

The reporter should have said "double suicide" instead. You know, It's sad to see someone lose their life, even if they were doing something stupid...but you gotta figure that might be a possibility when you bust someone's door down. I feel especially bad for the person that shot the two BGs. Being forced to take one life would be tough enough, but two... that's gotta be tough.

Ok here is my response. Read this article! http://www.wsoctv.com/news/15650560/detail.html
The district attorney will determine whether charges will be filed against the homeowner.
and then read this one

Police said Jenkins won't face charges since the shooting was self-defense.
Why in NC does every self defense shooting get referred to the D.A., who could be ravenously anti and try to "hang" a good guy, but in Atlanta, GA the police just make the obvious determination and drop it. This really is starting to make me angrier with every news story put out.

Any smart DA would think long and hard before bringing charges against any one who defended themselves legally according to their states laws....unless of course that DA wants to get Nifonged.
