I am looking for some help, i am interested in getting one of the presses but one of the ads stated that it could only use cci or remington primers. Is this true? i currently use winchester primers on my single stage and i do not want to change over to just get a new press. any help would be great. Thanks

The priming system of the Lee could possibly set off a primer and take out the primer trough and reservoir. For the Loadmaster, they sell a plate which is a blast shield which you are supposed to install if using any primers other than Remington or CCI primers. Winchester and Federal primers have a softer cup.

The blast shield is like $12. Cheap insurance.

I use all types of primers in my Loadmaster and I do have the blast shield. I have not needed it to date.

I've run a few thousand Winchester large and small primers through mine and have had no problems either. Mine's a load master but basically the same thing. I have seen them crushed and loaded sideways but they never went off. I highly recommend the blast shield regardless. I mean, why not?

I have loaded thousands of rounds on my Lee Pro 1000 using all kinds of primers including Winchesters and Federals and never have had an issue. That being said I personally like CCI primers best and they are easy to find around here so that is what I mainly use. Seems like I heard Lee had some kind of beef with Federal and that is why they are on the not recommended list, but you know how thoses internet rumors are.

i have only used winchester primers on mine for almost 20 years… no blast shield, and i have had a couple go off without incident… other than scaring the poop out of me… i also use them on my loadmaster and have not had an incident there…

I have/had several and have only had one primer go off. It did not chain react the rest of them, just a loud bang. I have decimated them in the past with nothing more than a squashed primer as a result. I have both the pro 1000 and the loadmaster and they both are excellent machines. I have loaded 1000's in one sitting on the loadmaster on several occasions. My best advice is to get with someone who loads with one for some one on one training. It will help a lot.
