I recently purchased a JC Higgins bolt action 12ga shotgun and would like it looked over for functionality as it appears to not have been used in a very long time. The spring in the tube seems soft and it is not feeding shells well.

Ok, sounds simple enough. Wish I was closer as I'd be able to assist but I'm a bit too far to be of any assistance, I'm afraid. You should be able to get a new magazine spring from Gun Parts Corp; I assume it's a box magazine. Tubular magazine springs are easier to get. I wish there was someone in your area I could recommend but I don't know any gunsmiths up there. Sorry.
