OK, guys. My wife has tried Speer Gold Dot JHP in her new XDs, and she doesn't like the recoil. Can anyone recommend a GOOD self defense 9mm that isn't +p?

The 147gr HST has a mild recoil, the standard pressure Golden Sabers and the Critical Defense do as well.

    ^this...along with P9HST2 (147gr Federal HST).

I now carry the 147gr Ranger-T and think it shoots and handles very well in both FS and subcompacts.

There's a recent thread at CSC that touched on some of this.

Federal 147gr HST is one of the best 9mm standard pressure rds bar none. My PM9 loves them.

I prefer 147gr for 9mm especially short barrels where the extra weight makes up for the lost velocity. My Shield shoots 147gr HST well.

You can get the Hornady Critical Duty in 135gn non +p also. Matter of fact I just received a order today from SG ammo.

I agree that the Hornady ammo is nice. Stays level and not too rowdy in my 9mm.

If you want almost no recoil with good expansion, look at Liberty USM4. They are crazy bullets.

Do any Law Enforcement Agencies issue Hornady Critical Defense/Duty Ammo? I don't believe either are on Dr. Gary Roberts recommended list, though I could be wrong.

He has moved his listings to "pistol-forum.com" http://pistol-forum.com/forumdisplay.php?19-Ammunition

His most recent changes read that any high quality manufacaturers ammo is Ok. http://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?4337-Service-Caliber-Handgun-Duty-and-Self-Defense-Ammo

By the way he has moved from the 45ACP to modern 9mm.

Same here. 124gr. Non +P GDHP. Great round. Made the list on DocGKR's recommended defense ammo list.
