I have a Mossberg 500 that is my go to shotgun, but it is a little rough on the finish... i would like to get the barrel, mag tube, and the
reciver done.

should i go with a blue, or parkerize it, anyone on the board here do either of those things that could give me a price?

any help would be appreciated...

The receiver is aluminum so bluing amd parkerizing aren't possible. The other parts yes, but the receiver will have to be sprayed or anodized.

Take a look at cerakote.

Cerakote could be a great option .. any idea ballpark price for the gun minus the wooden furniture..

I've only had pistols done in cerakote so this is only an estimate on my part. If you take it apart and deliver the pieces to the cerakote sprayer where they don't have to do any assembly or disassembly, you could probably get it done for under $100. As I said, I don't know for sure though. It is a Great product!

Price is relative to your desires and I guess if you want it to stay on for a while.
Wipe a hole in a polishing rag. Rust protection. 3 Microns thick, even makes the inside of the barrel look like glass.
Not sure what Chad would charge for just a shotty's metal

Yes I suppose that's true.. its really just a 500 that I paid 150 for so I really don't want to throw to much money at it.. I could just buy a new one before to long. I have been tempted to go with a crazy color like a fire engine red or something. Just to give the guys at the skeet and trap field something to talk about. Perhaps I will just high temp spray it.

Mac's Shootin' Irons - I have been hearing fantastic things about this guy for years, and if I can stop buying guns I'll send him something to refinish myself.

$150-200 for long guns, including return shipping. He disassembles and reassembles everything for you. If you want something else done, his prices are very reasonable (as little as $5 for small magazines, and as I said, that includes taking it apart and putting it back together). Here's a shotgun he did for an Arfcommer.

what do you use on the Magtube where the the forearm slides along.. thats a high wear area, i imagine most anything would rubb off.

I'd like to use this kit on a Saiga12 I recently converted. Do you think one kit would be enough to do the whole shotgun?
Yes. I used one kit (matte black) on 2 shotgun barrels, Bersa .380 frame, and still had 60% leftover in the spray bottle.
This is after applying 3 even coats on each item.

FYI - Once you combined the mix in the spray bottle, it is usable up to 24hrs.

Good Luck!

did you put the base coat and top clear coat that is recommended on as well? If so, do they come with a sprayer as well or would you need one for those?
Only certain colors and combinations required a base and clear coat. When you make your color choice, there is a prompt that will let you know if a base color is required. The kit contains EVERYTHING you will need (degreaser, color, sprayer), excluding gloves, mask, and tape. The instructions were simple, and straight forward. Each coat probably took maybe 15 minutes to dry, and I let the parts sit for 24hrs before reassembling.

I do duracoat and have had amazing results so far. I did my 870 in OD and Black. Duracoat is great and probably the least expensive option. The biggest thing is prep work. If you dont prep correctly your wasting time and money.
