Picked up a shield yesterday, shot it today in the bug match, gawd the trigger in this thing is awfull, and Im a glock guy. Is there anything that can be done to clean up the trigger without spending another 100.00 bucks on a new trigger set. At least with glocks I can polish up the trigger parts for a big difference in trigger feel. This is going to be my carry gun.

Good luck. The "upgraded", gritty, notchy, oingo boingo rubber band feeling Sigma like trigger that they put on the M&P series guns are about the sole reason I couldn't get used to them. Sold off the couple I had, and I don't plan on ever getting anymore.

What's so bad....the trigger weight? I have the Apex trigger in my Shield and its a nice addition but I'm really not sold on it being a needed upgrade. It lightened my trigger pull weight a little and that's not really a benefit I saw as needed for such a small gun. It took away the initial clunky feel in the uptake caused by the striker block but again that's never been a big deal to me since you only feel it on the first pull of the trigger during slow fire target practice. Pick up the pace and you shouldn't feel it on the first pull and shouldn't feel it on subsequent pulls since you only release to the reset.

The amount of pull needed to break the trigger is my biggest complaint. Also discovered some of the issues are my doing. Im used to shooting glocks, and the trigger of the M&P is shaped completely different. I noticed myself riding the trigger kind of high so I wasnt hitting the hinged part of the trigger allowing it to travel back. I think Ive worked through that, and will just dry fire the hell out of it to see if it will smooth out some. Also the reset travel is quite long as well.

You could always sell it for over MSRP, put another $75-100 and have a sweet trigger by buying an XD-S :D

I must've got one made on a good day. Triggers pretty good. Not better than the XD I sold or my 1911, but there's very little pretravel, nice smooth pull and a very consistent bang at the same spot. I did quite a bit of dry firing before I ever loaded it and it feels as if it lightened a little, but that's probably just me getting used to it. If you don't want it, I'll take a second. Dual wield shield. Lol

I bought a shield at the Gander Mountain in Winston Salem for 450 dollars. I have an xds 45 and honestly I shoot both of them well. I have had the XDS for almost a year now so it is broke in and I am used to it. A little more time with the Shield and I am sure it will work the same.

Looking at getting a carry gun and trying to decide between the shield (40 cal) or the xds in 9mm. I have a couple of Glocks and an S&W M&P 22. I love my Glocks and like the XDS, but hear god things on the shield too.

Any insight on what to get and should I man up and go 45ACP?

Since nobody else mentioned it yet: Be aware when purchasing a Shield that there are "ok for MA" versions, "ok for CA" versions and the "regular" versions. If you happen to grab a MA version the factory pull is @10.5 lbs., whereas the others are @6.5 lbs.

How do you tell the difference? Other than putting a scale on the trigger of course.
When you're looking at new guns, look at the item # on the side of the box. I think on the S&W it's a white sticker label and the number you're looking for is called the SKU. 180020 is the 'normal' .40 and 180021 is the 'normal' 9. If it's used or the box isn't available, the CA versions have pop-up loaded chamber indicators on the top and a magazine safety while the MA versions have triggers you have to pull with both hands :)
