Does anyone not recognize that you don't have to "just stand there" as the bad guy is leaving. You're allowed to use force to stop and detain them...just not deadly force. Had he cold-clocked the guy across the back of the head or pistol-whipped him, he'd likely have no charges against him.

You don't have to stand there like a statue waiting for the four triggers to be tripped to shoot someone. You were given arms, legs, voice, and some amount of muscle...use it.
True - but you are just asking for bodily harm or worse by going after that thief. I would hate to do that, only to end up in a struggle and then being shot with my own gun. We had an off-duty police officer killed in Winston-Salem several years ago when he was un-armed and tried to stop a fleeing armed robber at a Food Lion.

Let's face it. We would all be very pissed off if someone stole our wallet and then fled. Most of us would probably love to get some payback. Do I think the robber got what he deserved? You betcha. Unfortunately the robbery victim that acted in the heat of the moment is going to be in for a world of hurt.

I'm as conservative as they come, but we still live in a civilized society with laws. At times it seems like the criminals have all the rights. If we didn't have laws regulating the use of deadly force, we would be living in a society similar to Mogadishu.

I have heard of the "Mozambique Drill" - two shots to the torso and one to the head as the target is charging toward you

I suppose we now have the "Logan Drill" - one shot to the back of the head as the subject is beating feet

We have other idiotic laws in this state as well. For instance, a licensed CCW permit holder can't even pick up their kid from school with the weapon locked up in their vehicle. And we have people raising hell because they aren't allowed to shoot someone in the back after they commit a property crime? Scum is scum, but that is why we have prisons.

i love the "E-tosterone" comment. It kind of reminds me of a co-worker that used to talk about "telephone tough-guys"

I agree with the sentiments that much of this thread would really give the anti-gun people much to run with to support their misguided cause.

I can't stand a thief either. However, I'm not about to put myself in a position to go to prison; be sued by the survivors and lose everything; and be taken away from my family for years.

I bet all of you tough-talkers would think different if you had been the one that shot the thief and then had to lose your virginity and dignity to daily gang-rape in the prison showers.Of course you probably believe that you would be able to fight off Bubba and crew every day for years.

there was an armed robbery in Belews Creek back in the 90's at a convenience store. it was literally a "mom and pop" store. Two thugs beat up pop and held him at gunpoint. Mom blasted one thug. She was never charged because it was a clean shoot. the surviving thug was charged and convicted of murder because of his buddy getting wasted.

Now that is good example of using deadly force to protect one's self. It was one of the first cases in North Carolina where someone was charged with murder because someone died during the commission of a felony.
